I would have been more comfortable if Legend was here, our MC doctor but he had left yesterday to check on the injured men who’d tried to protect my dad in Sugarland at our compound.
Wildcat checked me over as he felt along my jaw, then down over my ribs. Raising one of my arms he stretched it out and felt along it. He did the same with my other arm. “Nothing looks broken as far as I can tell,” he commented as he grasped my head and I winced. “It feels a bit lumpy but no blood so you don’t seem concussed. Next, he took out a pen light out of his vest pocket and passed it over each eye. “No signs of any neurological damage.” He set back and said, “I think you made it out alive, man.”
I again, laughed as I finally felt like I could sit up. “What the fuck was that move?” I exclaimed.
“The Brachial Stun,” Talon called out.
I looked over at him and asked, “Would it work on a bull?”
He stared at me then he actually laughed.
The men around the ring all laughed as well.
I suddenly realized there were maybe thirty men or more present.
“Damn, Prophet. You did Requiem proud tonight!” Redemption said.
I looked over to see him. “Yeah right,” I snorted. “As I laid on my back whimpering like a damned baby.”
“No man,” Logan spoke up. “I’ve seen Talon fight many times. No one has ever beaten him.”
“Well, I didn’t beat him either,” I replied as I felt at my sore jaw.
“You were going to though,” Talon said. “You said you had a good right hook, but what was all that other shit you pulled?”
I finally felt like I could stand to answer this one, “I wrestle steers and brand bulls for a living, mostly. I told you I was a shitkicker.”
“Yeah, as in you almost kicked the shit out of me,” Talon replied.
The men all laughed again.
“Oooh!” Jewel yelled. “This is no laughing matter.” She turned to glare at me. “You could have gotten seriously injured, Prophet!”
I leaned in close to her and said, “Baby, the man was doing me a favor.”
“A favor!” she exclaimed. “By beating you up?”
“Hey, he beat me up too,” Talon supplied.
Chuckles sounded around the barn.
She glared at him and then at most of the chucklers.
I shook my head and winced as it hurt to do that. “I will explain it to you later okay?” I took her hand.
“So you did this for some macho thing?” she asked in disgust.
“No...I did it so I wouldn’t lose my mind.” I tugged her along and we got out of the ring. I went over to put my boots back on, but I could still feel her simmering glare on my back.
Chapter Six:Sunday School Girl
Jewel
Unbelievable! Prophet fighting like a madman. And Talon, my opinion of him had definitely changed. Cinnamon told me of how kind he was and how he’d changed her life. This though was beyond my understanding. What kind of freaking help was that? Poor Prophet had been devastated, and so upset by the plan as they called it and what did Talon do? He beat him up!
As a stripper, I’d gotten a good understanding of men while up on that pole. They could be aggressive, charming, sly and wild when drunk. Yes, fights broke out, but it was usually because of alcohol. These two men in that barn and the crowd cheering them on weren’t drinking, as far as I could tell.
I was helping Prophet move along the lit path. Angry still and worried about any serious injuries he might have.
