“I call her mama, Leo, because she is my mama, has been since I was eight years old after she stopped Melissa from hurting me when I said I wanted to get to knowyou,” she admits, and hismouth parts in shock while I swallow at the look, Brick has going on.

Hurt, betrayal, confusion, and a little bit of pride that his wife took on his daughter, who was conceived through infidelity, something most women would walk away from.

“My wife has been bringing you up?” he confirms with a tightness in his voice, and Skylar glares his way.

“Did you really think I saw a cent of the extra money you paid Melissa at Dark Angel’s Girls? Did you really think Melissa wanted a child without the benefits?” she asks with sarcasm, and Brick's face reddens as Sky states, “Every doctor’s appointment, every graduation, school plays, shopping trips for clothes, lunch money, Mama is the one who was there every step of the way, not Melissa, mymama!”

“When you threw the stapler at my head, it’s because she told you how she was treated, right?” Blade confirms, “That is why you got so angry?”

I scoff as Sky instantly denies, “No, she did not. For years, she was trying to encourage me to have a relationship with her son, and I wanted that more than anything.”

“Then why didn’t you give in?” Blade asks quietly, hurt lacing his voice, and Sky admits, “Because Melissa was going to claim rape against Brick. She even had fake evidence,” shocking him and Brick while the brothers look at Sky with their mouths hanging, and I hold her closer to me to support her.

I add, “Anna was going to take Skylar,” gaining their attention. I continue, “She walked into the trailer adamant about hurting Melissa for what you and she did, Brick, when she realized Melissa was actually abusing Sky and was adamant about taking her. But Brick, Anna loves you something fierce. As soon as Melissa threatened rape, she had no choice but to leave Skylar only with a threat of her own if she ever hurt Sky again. Shewent back the next night and sat in her truck watching to ensure Melissa wouldn’t touch her.”

I press my lips against Sky’s head as she gently rubs her hand over Tate, and she rasps, “I climbed out of my bedroom window when I noticed her truck, and I apologized for being born,” Blade flinches while Brick looks down in shame.

Sky continues giving her attention to our daughter and continues, “Mama wouldn’t allow me to feel bad about my existence. She climbed out of her car and told me I had nothing to apologize for, and I hugged her tightly,” she looks at Blade, “and that was it, I knew she was supposed to be my mama, and she was every day since.”

“So all the shit the brothers and women at the club spewed?” he says, and she shrugs, “Was just that, shit,” she chuckles darkly, “Heck, she got accused of trying to start a war when she punched that jackass, Brock,” Luna flinches, but Sky finishes, “He threatened to have me one way or another and mama hit him for it.”

He drops his head to his chin with a sigh while Brick tilts his head and confirms, “You hate me because I didn’t want you, right? My wife had nothing to do with keeping you back?”

Ivy snorts but coughs to cover it, making Psycho raise a brow at his woman while Skylar doesn’t look at him, and I swallow hard, knowing she doesn’t want to break Anna’s trust.

“It isn’t,” I admit to him, “and the reason isn’t down to me to tell you why. I mean, did it make her apprehensive with you? Yeah, it did, just like it would anyone, but it isn’t the reason.”

Brick’s jaw ticks, and he opens his mouth to say something, but the door opens, and a doctor in scrubs walks in, causing Skylar to jump up and rush towards him. Blade is right behind her, along with Brick, and I slowly stand with Tate in my arms.

The man looks around the room with tired eyes, taking in all the leather before he says, “Anna Lopez’s family?”

“I’m her daughter,” Skylar announces, and the man nods as I stand beside her, Blade instantly putting his hand on Sky’s shoulder.

“I’m her husband. How is my wife, doc?” Brick says, and the man clears his throat.

“The knife nicked her lung,” he admits, and I quickly wrap my arm around Sky’s waist before she can fall as her legs give out while holding Tate with my other arm. “We managed to patch it up, that was no problem, but her heart did stop while on the table, and CPR was given,” he continues and Sky’s body shakes as he looks between everyone, “She was very lucky, and we expect her to make a full recovery.”

“Can I see her please,” Sky chokes and the man gives her a small smile and says, “Of course but only three at a time for now. A nurse at the desk will take you to her when you’re ready.”

I give him a head nod in thanks and turn towards my girl as he walks out, but she turns towards an already struggling Brick and tears his world apart as she admits, “I hate you because when Melissa’s boyfriend tried to rape me at sixteen, I had found out that he raped Mama first and you stood there and watched.”

He looks at her sharply at her accusation, but she doesn’t back down as she says, “You thought she cheated on you. The whole club thought she deserved the punishment that you willingly slept with Melissa and made me but do you know what I know Brick?” she steps forward, “I know that Melissa and Peter set it all up so you’d cheat on Mama. He managed to get her after she had just gotten out of the shower and he raped her and you her husband who swore to have loved her yet flirted with Melissa for weeks before she came up with the plan to get your leather, even made out with her. Something mama isn’t aware I know of, stood in the doorway while she choked for help, believing she would do that to you.”

“No,” Blade choked out in denial and looks at me, and I admit, “Anna told me everything. It’s the truth, he raped her brother,” and he turns, linking his fingers behind his head, breathing heavily while everyone looks at Sky with guilt and shame, all believing Mama Lopez would hurt Brick that way.

She curls her lip at Brick and sneers, “You told her you felt vindicated that you got Melissa pregnant because she wouldn’t give you another child, but guess what, Brick? Mama was pregnant when Peter attacked her, and she lost it while you stood there believing the worst of her, and she lost any hope of ever having another child. That is why I hate you, why I refused contact with Leo, who never had his mother’s back!”

Blade turns and croaks, “She caused a lot of shit over the years, Sky. I-I thought –”

Skylar scoffs, cutting him off, “Because she knew Brick wouldn’t let her just leave! He destroyed her, broke her, then allowed her rapist to walk free only to then nearly rape me!” she looks back at Brick and says proudly, “And as soon as he gloated to what he did to her when he confirmed that the rumors of how her family had been treating her weren’t rumors, I killed him!”

“Fuck…” Viper whispers while Ivy, Raya, and Lake look at her proudly and quite frankly terrifyingly proud that has me eyeing them with caution.

Damn, I wouldn’t want to meet those three in an alleyway.

“I did what you failed to do, all of you!” Sky snaps before she turns and locks eyes with me, and I smile a little as I tilt my head to the nurse and mutter, “I’m right behind you,” and she nods before looking back at a destroyed and guilty-looking Brick and Blade, and she says, “I want nothing to do with either of you!”

Turning, she walks quickly over to the nurse's desk, and I sigh, not looking at anyone, and follow, not even making eye contact with Mama because I know without a doubt that she’ll try and take Tate, but again, I don’t want her out of my sight.
