“Humans are dealing with utter chaos at the moment and the longer this goes on, the closer we become to all-out war.” Hermes clenches his fist.
“Shit. How does that even work? Are we going to have to dodge humans going insane along the way too?” I ask.
“It’s entirely possible. Without the war god’s power keeping people in check, they get vicious and attack others without provocation.”
Jayden nods and pushes his tray away. “I heard that Ares went missing during the thirties and forties and that’s what started the World Wars.”
Raven scoffs. “How does a god go missing?”
“He got bored with Olympus and went to the underworld for a couple decades.” Hermes waves a dismissive hand. “Zeus has banned him from straying too far from the earth realm since the invention of nuclear weapons.”
“Thank fuck for that,” I mumble.
“Yes, except now his shield is missing and he’s grown weak. Humans still have the capabilities to destroy us all.”
Raven straightens in her seat and her hand clenches into a fist on the table. “We won’t let that happen.”
“How many times are we going to be asked to save the world?” I shake my head.
“Probably a few too many before all is said and done.” Hermes stands and pats Raven on the shoulder. “Good luck and try not to kill Draven along the way.”
“I make no promises if he doesn’t change his attitude.” I cross my arms over my chest.
“Fair enough.” Hermes sighs and strolls toward his table.
“You think he’ll knock some sense into him?” I whisper.
“One can only hope so.” Raven glances over her shoulder.
“I doubt anyone can,” Jayden says.
He’s not wrong. I can only hope that whatever the messenger god is saying to him right now, sticks in his thick skull.
“Does this mean we aren’t going to class?” Raven grins.
“We need to hurry every chance we get. I don’t know how long we have before war breaks out in the human realm.” I place my palms on the table and push myself up out of my chair.
Jayden grabs my bag before I can reach for it and throws it over his shoulder. He offers me his hand right in the middle of the cafeteria and I grin as I place my hand in his.
Maybe he is trying harder. Whispers follow us to the bins as we dump our trays, but I don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks.
“Ahh,” a girl’s high-pitched shriek shatters the silence.
I turn to find Mia charging like a bull at me with bright-pink magic covering her hands. The second she’s close enough, she launches herself at me and I slam into the marble floor with a thud.
Gripping her wrists to keep her hands off me, I try to roll us, but she has her feet planted on either side of me.
“What the fuck are you doing, psycho?” I ask through heaving breaths.
My vision is a little spotted and pain burns through my skull where I hit the floor.
“I’m going to kill you,” she screams in my face.
“With what? A makeover?” I ask and blink away the spots in my vision.
If I don’t get this whack job off me soon, I’m going to pass out from the pain and there’s no telling what the crazy person will do to me.
