“You psychotic bitch,” Raven yells.
Mia’s weight is suddenly gone, and Jayden is staring down at me. “Are you okay?”
He reaches out a hand and drags me up from the ground as Mia’s wails and screams of rage pierce the air.
“She stole everything from me and now she’s mocking me,” Mia screams.
Jayden pulls me back and touches the back of my head. Pain lances through the back of my skull and Jayden’s hand comes back wet with my blood.
“What the fuck, Mia? You don’t have the guts to fight me one-on-one so you cheap-shot me?” I shake my head, but stumble to the side as dizziness washes over me.
“I didn’t cheap-shot you. I gave you warning before I tackled you. Maybe you aren’t as strong as you make everyone believe. She’s a faker, Jayden. You should be with me,” she cries in fury.
Jayden wraps an arm around my waist and spins me around. My hand lands on his chest for support as the room spins again.
“I need to handle her or she’ll never stop,” I mumble and lean my head down on Jayden’s shoulder.
I’m so tired. Why am I so tired?
“Beth, stay with me.” Jayden shakes me a little.
I blink my eyes open. When had I closed them?
“I’m tired.”
Raven’s voice breaks through the fog in my mind. “She has a fucking concussion, you stupid bitch. I should slam your head into the floor and see how pretty you look after.”
Jayden calls over his shoulder, “Leave her, Raven. She’s not worth our time. I’m taking Beth to the healer.”
“No healer. He will get those disapproving eyebrows again and it’s not my fault this time,” I say and yawn.
“Jayden?” Mia’s whiny scream is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. “Why are you helpingher? I need you. She’s the reason we aren’t together.”
Jayden doesn’t spare her a glance and she screams like a banshee as he pushes the door open, leading me out into the rainy morning. I glance up at the sky, not wanting to get wet but too weak to even think about using my magic.
Jayden scoops me up in his arms and races to the small healer building. The rain pelts down on my face and I bury my face in Jayden’s chest.
“I’m sorry, baby. She’s insane.” His arms tighten around me. “I never should have let her get so attached.”
“It’s okay,” I say, slurring the words.
My eyes close for a second and blackness envelops me before Jayden shakes me awake just inside the healer’s office.
“No sleeping, Beth,” Jayden barks as he lays me on a cot.
“But I’m so tired.” I curl into the cot.
Sleep sounds amazing. Why can’t they all just let me sleep?
Blood trickles down the back of my neck and I widen my eyes.
I have a head injury. Don’t sleep, Beth. You may not wake up.
“I need a healer,” Jayden yells.
I grin as my favorite healer scurries over with a frown. “What happened to her this time? This is getting ridiculous, Beth.”
“Jealous bitch jumped me.” I shake my head and wince at the pain.
