Raven sidles up next to me but doesn’t move to touch me. I’m thankful because it’s way too fucking hot in here.

I shove the heavy door open and groan. The rain pelts my skin as I step into the forest. It cools me off instantly.

Raven swipes the hair off her forehead. “I don’t really like that place.”

“I don’t know. It’s pretty awesome, but it’s too hot to stay for long.” I shake my head.

We trudge through the forest and through the parking lot. Raven hasn’t even sent her new ax to the ether or wherever it goes.

I glance down at the ax in her hand. It really is beautiful. Claud is super talented and I’m so glad he’s thriving in the forges.

“That’s an awesome weapon, but you know you’re not supposed to have it out unless we’re in training.”

“I don’t want to put it away yet.” Raven sighs. “Besides, you have your sword.”

“That’s because I don’t have the ability to store it wherever you do.” I tighten my grip on the scabbard.

If I’m honest, I don’t really want to leave it with the other weapons in the training yard. Maybe Rebecca will give me a pass to keep it in my dorm instead.

The Ares floor has a wall of weapons.

I should be allowed to keep the sword in my room too.

We cross the parking lot in the rain and Raven turns to me. “The rain cooled me off for a minute but now it’s just getting annoying.”

“I can’t just play around with the weather whenever you don’t want to be wet, Raven.”

“Why not? Isn’t that what besties are for?” She bumps my shoulder with hers.

“It takes too much magic and I feel like everyone watches me overstuffing my face.”

“Everyone is always watching you anyway. You’re the daughter of Zeus and just an all-around badass.” Raven shrugs.

When we get back to the healer’s office, Adrian is standing at the top of the steps, his eyes milky white and a frown on his face.

“Shit, that can’t be good.” I rush up the steps to him and block him in case he falls over or stumbles.

“I’m growing to hate his visions. They are always doom and gloom.” Raven races up the steps beside me.

“Maybe he will surprise us this time,” I say.

“Yeah, right. He’s not frowning because it’s good news,” Raven deadpans.

Adrian shakes his head and blinks his eyes open.

“What is that?” he asks, pointing at the sword in my hand.

“It was a gift from Claud.” I hug the scabbard to my chest.

“It’s important.” Adrian runs a hand down his face.

“What do you mean, it’s important?” I ask with a frown.

Did he see our weapons in his vision? Did Claud give us weapons that may be the difference in success or failure?

“You know I can’t tell you much. I’m just glad Claud gave them to you. They are better than you think.”

Raven tilts her head back and stares at the sky. “Cryptic much?”
