“If you have him locked up, what do you need us for?” Max asks.

“Shadow chains are not a long-term solution to use until we figure out who’s doing this and how to fix it.”

I fucking hate having to explain myself. You would think saving the damn academy and the world would be enough for these people.

Kira bangs the top of her workbench with a hammer and we all turn our glares on her. “We should help them.”

“It’s not up to you, Kira. I don’t like the idea of creating something like that. What if it’s misused?”

“Seriously?” I shake my head. “We have saved the academy and the world on two different occasions. Do you really think we have something sinister in store for Dax?”

“Maybe not you, but what if someone else gets their hands on it?” he argues right back.

“Look, I get it. After we save the world for a third time, I’ll bring it back and you can melt it down or whatever you want to do with it.” I shuffle my feet.

He has to agree to this. We have no option other than to let Dax go and that isn’t happening.

We can’t just let him walk out of the wards.

“Fine.” He sighs. “If you promise to bring it back and have it melted down, we’ll make something to hold Dax.”

“Thank you,” I say.

I’ll feel much better about having to go help Ares and stop crazy wars from spilling into the human world if we know Dax is safe at the academy.

“Me help,” Claud bounces over to Max at the door.

“Yeah, buddy, you can help.” Max pats him on the back.

They walk into the forge and my shoulders slump with relief. Kira stands next to me with a frown.

“Do you know which students are going missing? Is there any kind of pattern?” Kira asks.

“The only ones who have left so far are from Ares, Athena, and Apollo.”

Kira gasps. “They’re taking all our warriors?”

Shit. Why didn’t we think of that? Are they trying to weaken the school in a different way this time?

“It’s all right. We’re going to stop this.” I clench my fists.

Raven taps Kira. “Keep this between us, okay? We don’t want to cause a panic.”

“Right, I won’t tell anyone.” Kira nods.

Raven fans herself. “It’s way too fucking hot in here.”

I swipe the sweat from my forehead and nod my agreement. “Is there any way you can find us at the healer’s office when it’s done? I don’t think my hair can take much more of this.”

“Yeah, sure. I can do that.” Kira strolls away behind a workbench and takes a seat.

“Thank you.” I sigh in relief.

“Oh, and I’m pretty sure that Claud made stuff for both Adrian and Jayden as well. It might help when you’re on your mission,” Kira says, never looking up from the project she’s got laid out on her bench.

“He’s so sweet. Tell him we’ll come back to see him before we leave.” I wave to Kira.

“You got it.”
