“Shit. Cross is going to be pissed if I’m late again,” I say.

“We’re not late, we’re early. I figured it would be best to get to the cafeteria before anyone else does.” He squeezes my hand.

“You woke me up early? No wonder I’m so tired. We were up way too late last night.”

Jayden shoots me a sexy grin and tingles erupt over my skin and my cheeks heat.

“Not that.” I playfully smack his arm. “Mapping out ancient Greece.”

“I know what you meant.”

Asshole made me blush on purpose. I would zap him, but he likes it.

Jayden pulls open the door to the dorms and I step out ahead of him into the rain. The weather has been acting strange lately and I can’t help but wonder if it has something to do with the gods weakening.

My magic crackles beneath my skin as I direct the clouds away from me and Jayden. It’s much easier to accomplish than the first time I did it.

“You’re getting better at that.” Jayden bumps my shoulder with his.

“I have had time to practice since it seems like it’s always raining.”

“The weather has been acting strange lately.” Jayden tilts his head back to scan the sky.

“This isn’t how it always is this time of year?” I ask.

“No, we’ve been in a drought for a long time. This rain isn’t typical.” Jayden glances at me. “What are you thinking?”

“Could the weird weather patterns have something to do with the gods weakening?” I chew my lip nervously.

“That’s entirely possible. The gods all have something they are the god of, so the weather could be affected.” Jayden shrugs.

“I wonder if we are supposed to help Poseidon this time.”

Jayden grips the door to the cafeteria and waits for me to walk in first. I nod my thanks to him, but I’m still lost in thought about the random weather.

Poseidon is the god of storms and the sea; could his weakness be causing the strange weather? Or is it just an unseasonably wet year for us? The human weather people will always find a reason to generalize.

Jayden follows me to the buffet and his shoulders stiffen.

“What’s wrong?” I ask and scan the room.

“Nothing,” he says and squeezes my hand.

Draven strolls up behind us with a cocky smirk on his face and I groan.

What the hell is he doing here so early? Shit. There goes any real interaction with Jayden.

I glance at him and can practically see the walls forming in his mind.

“Slumming it again, I see.” Draven sneers.

I pick up a tray and it takes every bit of self-control I possess not to slam it in his stupid egotistical face.

“Fuck off, Draven. It’s too early for your bullshit,” I growl.

Can’t he just stay away from me until it’s time to go find the mind-controlled students? Is that too much to ask?

Jayden is silent as he grabs his own tray.
