“They remind me of when we were first married, my love,” Persephone giggles.

“We did argue just like that.” Hades grins at his wife. “I somehow don’t think your father would like this though.”

“There’s nothing going on here. We are friends,” I say with a shrug.

Persephone giggles again. She thinks I’m joking?

“I denied my feelings for Hades for a long time too,” she says and pats my shoulder.

Is it that fucking obvious? It doesn’t matter though. We are toxic together and it will never work. We just keep hurting each other.

“I’m not denying anything. We are wasting precious time to close off the underworld before the Titans break out of Tartarus.” I put my hands on my hips.

Persephone’s knowing smile just pisses me off more, but I keep my mouth shut.

“We can’t speak on this out here,” Hades says, glaring at me.

“Then lead the way.” I wave a hand and Hades narrows his eyes at me.

I’m being a brat but being called out like that in front of everyone makes me twitchy.

“You kids should get some rest and heal before we get into all the specifics.” Persephone stares pointedly at the gouge in my shoulder.

I probably look like a nightmare covered in ash and blood. I bet she’s worried about us getting the furniture dirty. They do live in a damn palace in the underworld.

“We really don’t have time, but I can’t say I wouldn’t love a shower.” I shrug.

“A shower sounds great to me too.” Jayden peers down at his body with a frown.

“That sounds like a fabulous idea.” Persephone claps her hands happily. “Jayden, dear. Take Bethany to the blue room. I’ll escort your friends to the guest rooms.”

“Persephone,” Jayden grumbles.

Hades’ smile is indulgent as he stares at his wife. “Jayden, do as she asks. Beth needs to clean up and you all could use some rest.”

This coming from the guy who didn’t care that we almost died only minutes ago. It must be because Persephone suggested it.

“Fine,” Jayden grumbles.

“What’s wrong with the blue room?” I ask as we walk through the front double doors to the palace.

“There’s nothing wrong with the blue room. I just know what she’s trying to do,” he says on a sigh.

“And what is she trying to do?” I ask in confusion.

It better not be what I think. I already have to worry about Raven butting in.

“She put you in the room next to mine,” he says.

I widen my eyes. Motherfucker. She is trying to do what I think.

“You have a room in the palace in the underworld? How often do you visit?” I ask.

“Persephone insists on family dinners during the holidays.” He shrugs and leads me up a set of black marble stairs.

“Okay then. I’m sure she means well, Jayden. Despite you being a demigod and not hers, she seems to care about you.” I pat his arm.

It must be nice to have family dinners with his dad. Mine lives in a different realm and his wife is not so welcoming.
