“She likes to meddle a little too much,” he grumbles.

“The gods are known for meddling in the lives of mortals,” I chuckle and bump my shoulder with his.

“True.” He grins.

He places a hand on my lower back as he leads me down a side hallway to a set of double doors. I fight back a shiver at his touch.

I glance at him from the corner of my eye. He’s facing forward but sneaks a peek at me too and grins when he catches me looking at him.

“This is the blue room. My room is right there.” He points at a door at the end of the hall.

They are the only two doors down this secluded hallway. I put a hand on the knob and turn it before turning back to Jayden.

“Thanks.” I grin.

“Let me know if you need anything.” He nods and continues down the hall without a backward glance.

Big surprise, the blue room is, well, blue. Everything is done in shades of blue down to the baby-blue tile floor. Midnight-blue curtains hang over floor-to-ceiling windows.

The comforter is the same midnight blue and soft as silk.

Why did she give us guest rooms? We don’t have time to sleep here. We have a week, tops, before everything goes to hell. Literally.

I walk into the bathroom and the blue of the bedroom doesn’t bleed over into this space. There’s a white marble shower in the corner and I head to it immediately.

I strip out of my clothes and get under the spray. The heat beats down on me and I sigh. My shoulder stings lightly but it’s getting better by the minute.

I stand under the spray until the weird brown dirt mixed with blood turns clear. I scrub my hair and body and sigh in relief.

I feel human again.

I grab a fluffy towel and wrap it around me and step out of the shower and directly into a hard chest. I blink up at Jayden whose eyes are wide with shock and something else.

“Jayden? What are you doing?” I ask, taking a step back.

His hand rests on my hip and pulls me closer.

“I tried to knock and you didn’t answer. I thought something had happened.” He shakes his head but leans closer.

“I was in the shower, Jayden,” I say.

“Yeah, I just panicked. This place freaks me out a bit.” He sighs.

“I’m fine, Jayden.” I pat his chest.

One hand is still holding the towel so it doesn’t slip.

“Why can’t I stay away from you?” he whispers almost to himself.

Jayden’s lips crash down on mine, and I squeak at the sudden movement. His fingers flex at my hips, pulling my body flush with his.

His bulge rubs against my stomach, making me moan against his mouth. Jayden takes that as permission to deepen the kiss. His tongue swirls with mine, battling for dominance, and I trail my hands up his chest and over his neck.

Jayden breaks the kiss, moving lower over my neck and down to my collarbone.

“You’re so fucking beautiful, Beth,” he groans and nips at my collarbone.

“Jayden,” I moan and wiggle my hips.
