“Should we get moving? I don’t think it’s a great idea to hang out for too long when demons are doing their best to escape this place.” I stand up.

Jayden chuckles. It’s not lost on him that I ignored his question. This mission through the underworld is going to be a very uncomfortable one.

Why did I tell Jayden I wanted to be friends? That was a mistake, one I hope I don’t live to regret.

“What is that?” I ask as a growl pierces the quiet.

I turn to the sound and curse my stupidity. How did I forget about the giant-ass three-headed dog that guards the gates?

Three pair of glowing red eyes glare at us.

“Hey, Spot.” I chuckle.

“Did you just call the terrifying Cerberus, Spot?” Adrian frowns.

“You know that’s what Cerberus means, right? Spotted. Hades literally named his dog Spot.” I shake my head and take another step forward.

“That may be the translation, but I don’t think he likes it.” Adrian points a finger at the giant black dog.

Three mouths are snarling at me. “Okay, no more nicknames. Got it.”

Jayden walks up to the dog and holds his hand out. The middle head turns to him and a giant tongue licks all the way up Jayden’s face, practically engulfing his whole head.

“Ugh, knock it off, Cerberus,” Jayden complains, stepping back.

The huge dog whines and bumps Jayden in the chest with its head, sending Jayden stumbling back.

“I can’t today, buddy. I’m in a hurry.” Jayden shakes his head but scratches the dog’s neck.

All three heads make the most pitiful sound and for a second, I almost forget that we are talking about the guardian of the gates of the underworld.

“What the fuck is going on here?” I whisper to Raven with a raised brow.

“I guess they are buddies?” Raven asks with a shrug.

Jayden pats the dog’s nose and walks right past him to the gates.

“What are you guys waiting for? It’s just Cerberus. He’s harmless,” Jayden says.

“Yeah, the giant slobbering man-eating guardian of the underworld is fucking harmless,” I scoff.

I take a tentative step forward, but the dog blocks my path to Jayden.

Well, isn’t this just great. He gets a pass on everything that could go wrong here but the rest of us have to fight the demon dog. Cool.

“What are we going to do?” I ask, dodging slobber that is attempting to fall on my fucking head.

“We can’t kill him. He’s Jayden’s pet,” Raven grumbles.

Her first instinct is always to kill first ask, questions later.

“Of course, we can’t kill him.” Adrian snaps his gaze to her.

“Oh, don’t act so surprised. I’m a daughter of Ares. I literally excel at killing shit,” Raven says with a shake of her head.

“Guys, can we focus on getting past the giant slobbery beast, please?” I ask, exasperated.
