“We are right behind you,” I shout back. I flick the whip at a demon about to rush her, but it jumps back out of range.
“Hold them back,” I say and step up next to Raven.
Adrian comes to my other side and I can’t help but worry about where Jayden is and how he’s doing with the gate. “Jayden, you got the gate?”
“I’m working on it,” he shouts. “It’s not that easy.”
“We’ve got you covered,” I say, slashing at a lizard-like demon that gets too close. “Push them back. They’re scared to be destroyed on this side of the gate.”
Raven turns her attention to me. “Why would that be?”
“Maybe they don’t come back from it? I don’t know but they aren’t attacking us,” I say, flicking my whip at another one.
“Adrian, shoot an arrow at one. Let’s see what happens,” I shout.
Adrian fires an arrow at the farthest demon and it screams before bursting into flames.
“Well, that’s new,” Raven says with a chuckle.
“Do they just cease to exist though? What is happening here?” I ask, confused.
I flick my whip out at a demon getting too close and it jumps back.
“We need to just kill them,” Adrian says.
He’s not wrong. It’s the only way we will get to the ferry to the underworld.
Adrian nocks an arrow and lets it fly. Another demon bursts into flames as we surge forward.
“Jayden, how are you doing?” I call over my shoulder.
“I’ve got it,” he yells triumphantly.
He rushes over to us. The demons scream and surge forward. There’s no way for them to get out. Now that Jayden has blocked the entrance, we can take them out and get to the ferry.
I slash at a demon with my sword as it lunges at me. Claws dripping with poison reach for me and I spin away.
I do not want to be poisoned like that ever again. That sucked.
I bring my sword down on the demon’s arm, being sure to push my magic into it as I sever the demon’s arm from its body. It screeches in pain and anger as it rushes me again.
Black blood pours from the demon’s wound as he lashes out at me with his other hand.
Black flames engulf the demon and I turn to Jayden. He winks at me and throws more hellfire.
We push forward and I thrust my sword into a demon’s chest. It explodes into flames.
“Which way?” I ask Jayden.
He points to the right and my jaw drops. A river flows with black water as far as the eye can see. A rickety boat sits off to the side of the water.
That does not look promising. This is the boat that takes us to the underworld?
We cross the black terrain. The ground is rocky and I nearly trip but Jayden grabs my arm to steady me so I don’t face-plant.
“Thanks,” I say with a smile.
“No problem,” Jayden says, taking the lead and walking up to a man in a dark robe.
