That didn’t look like he was in a hurry. It looked like he was frantic, but I drop it because I’m still starving and if I go after him, that comes between me and food.
“We can always ask him tomorrow if everything is all right,” I say as we walk up the stone steps to the cafeteria.
The scent of roasting meat has my mouth watering right as I open the door. My stomach grumbles, making Raven chuckle.
“I’m the one that’s always hungry?” She bumps me with her elbow.
“I used a lot of magic during training. You should have seen Dax yelp when I got him with my electricity.” I chuckle.
We get in line for the buffet style dinner, and I grab a plate. I pile the plate higher than I probably should, but everything smells amazing and I want to try it all.
Once we are seated at my table, I groan. My muscles are sore and ache like crazy, so sitting down feels like heaven.
“I’m surprised they haven’t gotten on my case about sitting with you yet.” Raven spears a piece of roasted chicken with her fork.
“Yeah, I don’t know how long we can use the ‘we saved the school; we can sit together at meals’ thing before it gets old.” I chuckle.
The tables in the cafeteria are arranged by the godly parent, but since I am the only child of Zeus, my table is always empty.
The doors to the cafeteria slam open and a very frantic Adrian races into the room. He peers around the room until his eyes land on mine and he quickens his pace.
“Beth,” he huffs, out of breath.
“What’s going on?” I ask before taking a bite of the pork and nearly groaning as the tender meat practically melts in my mouth.
“I don’t know, exactly.” He scrubs a hand over his face.
“Is it a vision?” I sit up straighter. What could possibly have the seer freaking out like this?
“It was but it doesn’t make any sense.” He flops into the seat across from me and a few people gasp but no one tells him to move.
“Tell us about it.” I lean forward, my food forgotten.
His hands fidget on the table, uncertainty clear in his gaze. It’s got to be bad if he’s so unsure.
Raven lifts a brow, still chewing her food. Obviously, the bottomless pit hasn’t forgotten about her food in the face of one of Adrian’s visions.
“Why did you freak out and come over here if you aren’t going to tell us about it?” Raven asks.
“It’s dark and I’m not sure if there is something wrong with my magic or if it’s a bad omen,” he whispers so low I almost don’t hear him over the clang of silverware in the room.
Could he be having trouble with his magic as others have? I chew my lip with worry. He was a huge help when we saved the school. If his visions aren’t reliable now, that could be a huge problem.
“How dark are we talking? Could you make out anything?” I ask, tapping my fingers on the table nervously.
“I could make out the three of us and Jayden and then blackness.” He jumps up from the chair, the legs screeching across the floor in his haste. “What if I’m losing my magic? I can’t be of any help finding anything if I don’t have my magic.”
I sit back in my chair, my eyes wide with horror.
“Blackness could mean anything. We are supposed to be finding the items of power for the gods. Maybe you are supposed to go with us into the dark to find one?” I say hopefully but I’m not entirely convinced.
Raven raises her eyebrows and sits forward a bit. She’s been pretty quiet while eating, but my appetite is completely gone. “I have noticed something the last day or two during training.”
“People are struggling with their magic,” I say and her eyes widen.
“It doesn’t make sense though,” she says with a frown. “My strength and accuracy has grown and Jayden discovered the hellfire. Have you noticed anything different?”
“My accuracy and control are a lot better with my electricity the last few days but nothing super significant.” I shrug.
