“Big ugly?” Claud asks with a frown and then turns to stare at Typhon. “No, no, no.”
“It’s okay to be scared, Claud. We’ve got this.” I pat his foot. “You just keep swatting demons.”
There aren’t any more after us, but I would rather him go looking for threats than get hurt trying to distract Typhon.
“Raven and Adrian, go look for the helm.” I raise an eyebrow at Jayden.
Jayden curses. “Fuck, Beth, I’m coming with you then.”
I turn my shocked gaze on him. Did he really give in that easy? He’s going to work with me instead of trying to put me behind him?
Maybe he has learned to trust me.
I nod my confirmation and turn to Raven. “Find the helm. We will try to stop Typhon and the others while you search for the helm.”
“You got it.” Raven nods and she and Adrian dart away.
Hecate lunges for them but a flash of golden light stops her in her tracks. When the light fades, dark-blond hair and a chiseled grin are all I can see.
“Hermes,” I sigh.
He actually showed up. Thank the gods. Maybe there is hope for us to win after all.
Hermes throws up a wall of shimmering magic to block Hecate from reaching Raven and Adrian, and the goddess shrieks.
“Hey, little sister.” Hermes grins. “Hope I’m not too late to the party.”
“Thank the fates you’re here. Typhon somehow came out of the pit.” I point at the monster and Hermes’ complexion pales.
“Fuck,” Hermes groans. “Keep him busy while I take care of Hecate.”
It’s help so I’m not complaining. Jayden and I race to the giant hundred-headed monster and several of its heads snarl at us. He stomps his foot and the ground rumbles beneath him.
Cracks spiderweb in the ground again, making rock and debris crumble into the chasm. I widen my stance to keep from stumbling and pick up a rock.
It’s probably not the best idea in the world but I have to try something. Typhon is here to help get his brothers out of Tartarus. He will do whatever it takes.
So will I.
I pull my arm back and launch the piece of rock and hit him in the dragon head. Fire erupts out of the dragon’s mouth as the rock smacks it in the eye.
“Motherfucker,” I say and dive out of the way. “No one told me this thing breathes fire. We really need to have a practical applications class or something at the academy.”
“I’ll make sure to tell Rebecca that if we ever get back to the academy,” Jayden says and grunts.
“Haha, smart-ass.” I roll back to my feet.
The dragon head breathes fire again and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what the damn thing is doing. He’s herding us to the pit of Tartarus.
“Jayden, be careful. He’s herding us with fire,” I mumble so Typhon can’t hear me.
I’m not sure if he has super hearing like Greyson. He probably does but it doesn’t matter.
“Get on my other side.” Jayden pushes me to the left.
“Fuck that, Jayden. I can take care of myself,” I say and growl.
“Just do it, Beth. I know you can take care of yourself.” Jayden unleashes his shadows and they wrap around Typhon’s legs.
