“We were put under a spell; do you know how to lift it?” I ask hopefully but that hope dies when he shakes his head sadly.
“Smells funny,” he mumbles, sniffing the air and waving his hands again.
I take a deep breath but nothing smells any different.
Claud reaches over and waves his hand over Adrian and Adrian shoots up, almost banging his head with Jayden’s.
“What happened?” Adrian asks, clutching his head.
“We were spelled by Hecate,” Jayden grumbles.
Adrian’s eyes widen and he turns to Claud. “Do what you did to me to Raven, please.”
Claud nods, a big toothy grin spreading across his face as Adrian says please.
Poor guy probably hasn’t ever encountered people that actually have manners being trapped in Tartarus for eons.
Claud leans over Raven and takes a deep breath through his nose and promptly sneezes all over Raven. A big gust of air from the giant’s nose blasts her and Raven jumps up, pulling her ax from the ether and searching for a threat.
Raven scans the area before she realizes that she is now slimy with whatever was inside Claud’s nose. Raven scowls.
“What the hell? That’s disgusting.” She runs a hand down her front, flinging snot away off her hand.
Adrian promptly cracks up but my eyes are on poor Claud. He has tears in his eye.
“I’m sorry,” he says and lowers his head sadly.
“Hey, it was an accident,” I say and pat his huge knee.
The guy is huge and I have no idea what we are going to do with him when we get back to the academy.
“It’s okay, Claud,” Raven sighs. “What’s a little snot between friends?”
I crack up laughing, forgetting momentarily that there is something seriously wrong. Hecate used magic on us and could be waiting to ambush us at any time.
“He woke you up from the spell that Hecate used on you,” I say to Raven with a raised brow.
“That bitch again?” Raven growls.
I widen my eyes as a memory assaults me. “Shit.”
Jayden steps forward but he doesn’t look directly at me. What the hell is his problem?
“What is it?” Jayden asks.
“Mr. Cross,” I say softly and Raven gasps.
“I knew that magic felt familiar.” Raven stomps her foot on the ground.
“What are you talking about?” Jayden asks.
“Mr. Cross has been increasingly weak because his access to salt water was cut off at the academy and he can’t reach Poseidon. The magic felt familiar, but I couldn’t place it,” I say.
“Fucking hell. If Hecate is behind this, there is no way she’s doing it alone. There has to be someone else working with her.” Raven chews her lip.
She tightens her grip on her ax as she scans the area. Claud turns his head back and forth before flinching and cowering.
“No magic. No magic,” he cries.
