“Agreed,” Raven says with a nod.
She leans over and shoves Adrian.
“What?” Adrian groans as he blinks his eyes.
“We are leaving, c’mon.” Raven smacks him again.
“No one woke me up for watch,” he says with a yawn.
“We aren’t keeping watch. We decided to keep moving,” Raven says.
I stand and dust myself off, ready to get out of here and get on with finding the helm.
The underworld is not a place I want to be for long and with food running low, we need to make good time.
“Let’s just get out of here.” I turn in a circle before glancing at Jayden with a shrug.
I have no idea where the hell we are or where we are going, so I step to the side and let him lead.
I know when to let him lead and when to take the lead myself. It seems he’s finally starting to understand that too.
The guys walk ahead as Raven keeps pace with me.
“What happened?” she stage whispers.
I glare at her, hoping that she can see from my eyes that I want her to shut the hell up. She doesn’t, of course, and stares at me expectantly.
“We talked. We aren’t doing anything until we get back and he can prove to me fully that he trusts me and that he doesn’t want Mia.” I shrug.
“You were definitely doing… things,” she says with a sly smile.
I pull my electricity to my palms and zap her just enough to make her yelp.
She doesn’t disappoint as she jumps away from me with a glare. “That was uncalled for, B.”
“No, it wasn’t,” I say angrily. “You know that wasn’t what I meant.”
“Obviously, I didn’t. You all were pretty heated over there,” she teases.
I nearly reach out to shock her again, but she dodges me, sticking her tongue out. I wish Greyson were here to tell her where to stick that.
“Real mature,” I say with a shake of my head.
“C’mon, what did you mean?” she asks.
“We are not together or anything like that until we get back to the academy. He wants to prove himself and it seems like every time we get to the academy everything goes all to hell.”
I’m tired of it. I can’t trust Jayden with my heart one more time and have him wreck me again. It wasn’t my idea though; this is his plan and he is sticking to it and giving me orgasms in the process.
We grow quiet as I scan the meadow. A chill runs down my spine as the spirits of the dead simply float around the space.
Blank stares are the only response when I wave my hand in their faces. They aren’t corporeal the way the spirits in Elysium were.
They all look as if they were taken out of time. A woman in a beautiful Victorian era gown floats past me, a red line of blood across her throat.
“Hello,” I call out to her. “Do you know where the river of fire is?”
The woman stares blankly ahead without a word.
