The ground shakes beneath our feet and I reach out, grabbing on to Jayden’s arm for balance.

“What the fuck is that?” I ask as another tremor hits.

Raven stumbles to the side into Adrian who grunts from the impact.

“Something very fucking big is walking toward us,” Adrian says.

“When did you start swearing so much?” Raven asks with a frown.

“I figure we are on a life-or-death mission to save the world so I can swear accordingly.” He glares at Raven.

The ground rumbles again and it’s getting even closer. A roar breaks through the silence and the trees tremble as something huge makes its way toward us.

Jayden gasps, “What the fuck is that?” He points to something above the trees. A head peeks out over the trees. It’s stone or some other kind of rock.

“I have never seen anything so ugly in my life,” I whisper.

Raven shoots me a look as she grabs the ax strapped to her back. “Why does it look like a giant hunk of rock?”

“It’s a golem,” Adrian says in awe.

“I don’t remember golems from my ancient history class,” I mumble.

“They aren’t really Greek myth,” Adrian says with wide eyes.

What the hell? Why would there be creatures in the underworld that aren’t a part of Greek history?

“Someone extremely powerful conjured it.” Adrian nocks an arrow.

“Conjured?” I ask, confused. “That’s not a real living creature of the underworld?”

“No, golems are manufactured by magic made of clay or stone and created with a single purpose in mind,” Adrian says, glancing over at me.

“And what is that giant’s purpose?” I ask.

Jayden frowns. “It seems that someone knows we are here, and they are not happy about it.”

The golem raises a stony fist and slams it down on the tree in front of him. The ground rumbles in protest.

“How do you kill a golem?” I shout as I dive out of the way.

The ground where I just stood is now a crater from the golem’s fist. His entire body is stone and every time he moves, he throws us off-balance and the ground shakes.

“It’s completely made of rock,” I shout. “How do we get out of this?”

Raven swings her ax at the hand that comes down to swat at her. The golem pulls its hand back as part of his finger crumbles and drops around us.

I dodge a large piece of it, barely escaping a concussion. I reach for my sword, but it’s not made of the same material as Raven’s ax, so I stop and tap my charm.

My whip unfurls in my hand, and I flick it out at the golem’s fingers. Lightning crackles through the giant beast and it snaps its hand away.

It stomps its feet and the ground shakes more violently than it has before.

“It’s trying to knock us over, so we are easier to hit,” I scream.

Raven stumbles. “Remember the lion?”

Shit. This bitch is going to use me as bait again.
