“We need to spread out.” I nod.

The thing will go after me and Jayden first, but if we all spread out, we might confuse it.

I turn to Jayden, and he shakes his head. “No, you are not bait.”

“I’m not bait but if we spread out, he won’t know who to go for first and it will make him slower.”

The creature stomps again and I pitch sideways into Jayden. His arms wrap around me, keeping me from falling on the ground, and the golem roars.

Jayden dives out of the way, and I go flying with him. He turns us so he lands on his back with me on top of him.

A rocky fist slams into the ground where we were just standing. Jayden’s reflexes are much better than mine.

“Move,” Raven screams.

I roll off Jayden. He wraps his shadows around himself and jumps behind a tree.

“Spread out,” I yell.

Raven dodges right and Adrian circles around the back of the giant.

The golem’s head turns in all directions, trying to figure out who to go after first when empty eye sockets land on me.

“Beth,” Jayden shouts.

I flick my whip and electricity shocks the golem again. It thrashes and swats at me, but I dodge it easily.

The golem’s other hand swings out and pain shocks me as I don’t move out of the way quickly enough. I crash into the tree, screaming in pain.

An eerie, creepy smile spreads on the golem’s rocky face as it looms over me. I scan the area, unable to move without pain ricocheting through my limbs. My ribs throb in agony with every movement.

“Beth, move,” Jayden shouts.

I groan as I roll to my hands and knees to crawl away. Jayden dodges forward, but the giant golem swats at him. He barely missed the same fate as he uses his shadows to jump away.

“Over here,” Raven yells and throws something at the giant, smacking it in the forehead.

A roar chills me to my bones and the golem slams his hand down on the ground a second after Raven dives out of the way.

The ground shakes, sending me falling back on my face. Searing pain hits me in my center as I land on a jagged rock. Blood trickles onto my hand as I grasp my ribs.

“Shit,” I say.

“Beth, you need to get out of there,” Jayden yells.

“That’s easier said than done, Jayden,” I say, shaking my head and attempting to move again.

Breathing heavily, I manage to get to my hands and knees again, but blood leaks out of the gash in my ribs.

Raven dodges another rocky fist. “We need to kill this fucker.”

“How do you suggest we do that?” Jayden throws his hands up in frustration as he dodges with his shadows again.

“The only thing that affected it was my electricity, but I don’t think I can,” I say breathily.

Blood is pouring out of me in a steady stream, turning my hand a bright crimson. Jayden’s eyes widen and he calls my name.

“You’re bleeding,” Jayden yells. “Raven, you and Adrian hold this bastard off.”
