“Son, watch your tone. Do you think I don’t know the stakes? You are all dead on your feet and will be more susceptible to Elysium like this,” Hades yells.
Raven turns to me with wide eyes.
“We will take our chances, sir. We have done more with less before.” Raven shrugs.
Hades nods and strolls past us and through the double doors of the throne room.
We follow him out to the entry and Persephone stands at the door, pouting.
“You won’t just stay one night so you can rest?” she asks Jayden with pleading eyes.
Jayden’s eyes soften as he wraps his arms around his stepmom. “I’m sorry, but we need to save the world from the Titans. I’ll come back soon for a proper visit.”
“Oh yes, and you must bring Bethany.” Persephone steps away, clapping her hands excitedly.
What the hell? Why am I being dragged back to the underworld?
Raven snickers and I elbow her in the ribs.
“If Beth wants to come with me, then we will come visit soon.” Jayden turns his heated gaze on me.
Well, shit. Fucker just threw me under the bus.
“Of course, I would love to come back for a visit. I already promised myself that if I got the opportunity, I would come back and play with Spot,” I say, smiling at Persephone.
Hades bursts into a full belly laugh again and Jayden grins at me, shaking his head.
“You caught the translation, then?” Hades says. “Of course, you did. You are a very bright girl.”
Hades takes my hand, kissing the back of it, and Jayden’s growl fills the room. I turn on him with a warning glare before stepping away from the very charming god of the underworld.
Jayden wraps a possessive arm around me, and I scowl at him again. He has not earned the right to be a possessive asshole.
“He really did name his dog Spot,” Raven whispers, shaking her head.
“He totally did it on purpose.” I snicker as I follow them out the front doors of the palace.
“I did. He’s such a terrifying monster that I thought it would be funny to give him such a common name and I was right,” Hades says.
“See, I told you, Jayden.” I stick my tongue out at him and his eyes heat as he snaps his teeth at me.
“Real mature, guys.” Raven rolls her eyes but she’s grinning.
She has been the one pushing me to trust Jayden since the beginning. He just keeps making too many mistakes that hurt me.
We will need to be friends before I can even think about being with him. Maybe he’s finally seeing that even after the orgasm he gave me earlier.
We follow Hades around the palace and to another path.
“That will take you to Elysium. Be very careful in paradise. It will try to keep you there for eternity.” Hades claps Jayden on the shoulder.
“We can’t stay very long,” Jayden says as we stomp down the path. “The longer we are there, the more of a hold it will take on you.”
“Will it really keep us there?” I ask, chewing my lip nervously.
“No, it won’t force you to stay but you will never want to leave, to the point if you do go back to the human world, you will long for Elysium until you eventually die,” Jayden says with a frown.
He stops at a small garden gate at the end of the path, and I scrunch my brows down in confusion.
