“That’s fucking terrible,” I say.
Note to self: don’t get attached to Elysium. At all.
I’m not ready to be stuck in the underworld forever. I have too much shit to do.
“If anyone wants to back out, now is the time.” I scan Adrian and Raven’s faces but they both scowl at me.
“Hell no,” Raven growls at me. “We are in this fucking together. Just like last time. You’re not getting rid of me now.”
“I saw us all together doing this. You can’t just ask us not to come. What if something happens because we leave?” Adrian crosses his arms over his chest.
“Hades asked me for help, not you guys. I don’t want to drag you into a situation that you may not come back from.” I shake my head.
“You aren’t dragging me anywhere, bitch. I’m dragging you,” Raven says and grabs my arm, pulling me through the little garden gate.
“Fine.” I chuckle, but it dies on my lips when I get my first look at Elysium. “Wow.”
Don’t get sucked in. Fuck. It’s beautiful.
The colors are more vibrant than the human realm and the air is warm but not too hot. It’s fucking perfect.
“C’mon,” Jayden barks. “We can’t stay in one place too long.”
Awe fills me the farther we walk into Elysium. Every living space is like a mansion and wild flowers dot the green fields.
Spirits are practically corporeal here and mill around talking and laughing. There is no drama or danger here. It’s amazing.
“We need to ask around and find the prophetess,” Jayden says, grabbing my arm and steering me in the direction he wants.
Was I wandering off? Shit.
I shake my head to clear it. I can’t get caught up in this place, and wandering away is a surefire way to get stuck here.
Raven veers to the left and I grab her arm, threading mine through hers to keep her from taking off and getting lost.
We have to keep on track.
“Adrian, how are you?” I call, but he doesn’t answer.
His gaze bounces around the space. I nudge Raven and she grabs Adrian’s arm.
“Don’t let it confuse you,” Raven whispers to Adrian.
We are totally screwed if Jayden is the only one not affected by this place.
Jayden drags us all over to a group of souls standing around talking.
“Hello?” Jayden asks, getting their attention.
Eyes widen at Jayden and a few of them stiffen or glance away.
I frown. Are they intimidated by Jayden?
The back of my neck tingles and I turn my gaze to a woman watching me curiously.
She’s frowning and tilting her head to the side as if she knows me. I take a step toward her but Jayden’s hand on my arm tightens.
“You can’t wander off, Beth,” Jayden mumbles.
