Raven sighs. “We were followed.”
She points to the door where I see Dax.
“What took you guys so long?” Jayden asks as he eyes the guy walking toward us.
“I went to the healer,” I mumble.
Jayden’s eyes snap to mine. “I told you that you needed the healer.”
“All good now and he gave us some supplies in case we need them.” I shrug, still watching Dax as he moves through the room.
Adrian drums his fingers on the table. “That’s good. We will probably need medical supplies.”
“I thought the same, especially where we are going,” I say with a sigh.
Dax doesn’t stop at the Ares table like he’s supposed to after getting his food. He’s headed directly for us and I’m just so fucking exhausted.
Jayden stiffens as Dax rounds the table and stomps to the chair next to me. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Dax?”
“I told you, I’m going with you.” Dax shrugs and bites into his sandwich.
“I really need someone to talk some sense into him,” I groan.
“I think you just got your wish.” Jayden moves to stand.
Turning, I scan the cafeteria until my eyes lock on Rebecca.
“Thank the gods,” I grumble.
Standing with Raven and Jayden at my side, I race to the other end of the cafeteria to talk to Rebecca.
Rebecca raises an eyebrow at our quick approach. “What can I help you all with?”
“We need a pass to leave campus,” I say as I stop in front of her.
“Me too.” Dax shoves his way between Jayden and me.
“No,” I say forcefully. “I told you that you aren’t going.”
“Shove me out of your way like that again and we are going to have a problem,” Jayden says through gritted teeth.
“You want another black eye, then?” Dax smirks.
Rebecca glances between the two hotheads and sighs. “You better not have done that to him.”
Dax cringes as he realizes who he just said that in front of and backs up a step.
“It was more than just that,” I mumble and thankfully Rebecca doesn’t hear me.
“Where will you four be going?” she asks and Dax scoffs.
“Rebecca, I need to go. I can help keep Beth safe,” Dax growls. His fists clench at his sides.
“Dax, we only go out of the wards in groups of two to four students. It’s too dangerous to send out a larger group.” She shakes her head, dismissing Dax.
“But they are going to the underworld. The usual monsters won’t be after them there,” he argues.
Jayden turns a glare on him. “No, there will be creatures far more terrifying and deadly than the creatures we encounter.”
