“You got to save us last time. It’s my turn to save the day, okay?”
Jayden presses his lips to mine and I melt into him. The kiss is too brief.
“Can you trust me, Beth? I promise I will be back. I just gotta pick something up first.” Jayden grins.
I nod my agreement even as my gut plunges to my toes. Before I can change my mind, Jayden is walking into the cave mouth.
“Keep her safe for me, Skullrider. I’m counting on you, buddy,” he says before he walks into the cave and disappears.
“You won’t keep me out of that cave if something happens, Skullrider. I won’t let anything happen to him,” I say with a growl.
The horse snorts flames and stamps his feet. Clearly, he is taking Jayden’s orders seriously.
Well, shit, Jayden better be all right or I’ll be fighting a skeletal horse to go in after him.
The horse neighs and I swear he glares at me.
Fuck you, Skullrider. If Jayden doesn’t come out, I am going in. No matter what.

Ipace a line outside the cave. “He’s been in there too long. I’m going in after him.”
The damn horse blocks the cave and shakes his head rapidly.
“Get out of my way,” I shout, throwing my hands up.
The horse buts me in the chest with his nose, forcing me to step back.
This fucker thinks he’s in control?
Skullrider snorts and neighs. I forget the horse can hear my damn thoughts.
I brandish my whip and glare at the horse. He isn’t keeping me out of the cave.
He flicks his skeletal wing out and swats me with it. I land hard on my ass and glare at him.
“Was that really necessary?” I shout as I get back up.
The damn horse nods his head and chuffs like he’s laughing at me.
“C’mon, Jayden,” I groan as I stare at the cave mouth.
He needs to hurry up. We left Hermes fighting Hecate and there’s no telling how long it will take Typhon to untangle his damn heads.
Where the fuck is Jayden? What’s taking him so long?
I tighten my grip on my whip as movement in my peripheral catches my attention. I spin to find Adrian and Raven walking toward me.
“Where’s Jayden?” Adrian asks and I point to the cave.
“The damn horse won’t let me go in after him,” I grumble.
Adrian nods. “Good. I have seen what happens if you do and it’s not pretty, Beth.”
“You too, Brutus?” I ask snarkily and the horse snorts.
“Chill out. He’ll be out in a minute.” Adrian throws his hands up.
