A giggle fills the air a second later, and I have a feeling she and Greyson will be in the shower together. I just hope they don’t use all the hot water.

The door to the bathroom shuts, and water turns on as Jayden moves closer to me. “It’s you, Beth.”

“What are you talking about?” I peer over at him.

His hands are folded in his lap in front of him, and his eyes burn into mine. My breath catches.

“The little seer. She told me not to give up on what I want most.” He breathes it so quietly I almost miss the words.

I gasp, and my head shakes almost automatically. I take a step away, and the backs of my knees hit the bed.

“Jayden…” I don’t even know what to say to him.

“No, Beth. Just hear me out, please?” His eyes meet mine again, and the desperation there has me nodding.

“Go ahead.” I wrap my arms over my chest to wait for what he has to say.

“I screwed up, okay? I know I did. I never should have let Mia touch me or come near me. It has always been easier to just ignore her. I didn’t think about how it would affect you. I should have, and I have been paying for it since. I deserve all your ire, but please don’t shut me out anymore. Please?”

I have no idea what to say to that.

My heart breaks a little for him, and I reach out to touch his arm. “I haven’t really been that mad these last couple days. It’s just hard to move past it.”

Jayden moves so quickly I gasp when he pulls me into his arms. He crashes his lips to mine. I pull him closer and wrap my arms around his neck.

It feels perfect and so right. I don’t even protest when he slips his tongue into my mouth.

Jayden groans, his hands going to my ass and pulling me impossibly close.

“Tell me you feel that,” Jayden whispers once he breaks the kiss. “You have to feel that connection. I have felt this way for you even when I was acting like a jackass on the way to the academy.”

“I do feel it. I think that’s why I held on to the anger for so long,” I whisper.

His hand covers my cheek, and he tilts my chin back to look into my eyes.

“Watching you for weeks was absolute torture,” he whispers close to my lips. “But these past months were excruciating. After having you in my arms and then not even being able to touch you again, I thought my heart was going to crumble to dust like the monsters.”

His words make me gasp and fall into him all over again.

The last months have been hell, but it was a hell of my own making.

Why couldn’t I just forgive him until now? What happens when we get back to the academy?

Can I trust him to stay away from Mia?

“I see the wheels spinning in your head. I will never let her touch me again. Not when we get back. Not ever. I don’t want anyone but you.” His lips brush mine, much softer this time, and I melt.

Who is this?

He is so different from the overbearing male who demands I listen.

Maybe he’s finally figuring out that he cannot command my trust or respect. It’s about fucking time.

The water turns off in the other room, but I don’t break away immediately. That means that Raven is done with her shower and will most likely barge in here any second.

I caress his neck as we kiss slowly, teasingly, until a squeal fills the room and we break a part.

My cheeks heat, and I turn away from Jayden and Raven to try to catch my breath.
