I shake my head. “Watch the road.”

Maybe the little girl is right.

What he wants most is a lot closer than even I thought, and I don’t know how to feel about that.

“Why are we here again?” I grumble as I scan the area.

It’s just a big house and a tribute to Elvis.

Why would there be anything here to see?

Raven scratches her head. “Artemis seemed to think we needed to stop by for some reason.”

We tour the house and walk into the backyard.

“Elvis and his family are buried here? Weird.” I rub my hands over my arms. Even in the heat, a chill works its way down my spine.

“He was like you, you know?” a man whispers behind me.

I jump, turning with electricity at my fingertips. “What the fuck? Who are you?”

I take a step back and run right into Jayden, nearly stumbling, but his hands on my hips steady me.

The man winks. “No need to be afraid, daughter of Zeus. I’m a friend.”

He’s a good-looking guy, one of the tallest, broadest men I have ever seen. He reminds me of someone, but I can’t quite figure out who.

“D-dad,” Raven stutters. “What are you doing here?”

“Hey, Raven. You’re doing good. Your monster kill list is almost rivaling mine.” He pats her on the shoulder.

Irrational jealousy washes through me.

I know it’s stupid, but Ares coming here and praising Raven makes me long for approval from my own father.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

“Thanks, Dad.” She beams at him. “This is Greyson, my boyfriend.”

Fire fills Ares’s eyes as he looks at Greyson, and I really would not want to be him right now.

Greyson audibly gulps as he holds his hand out to Ares.

“Nice to meet you, sir.” His voice raises an octave, and I grin.

“You’re the shifter?” He glares at him. I can practically see the steam coming out of his ears as he ignores Greyson’s hand. “You hurt my Raven, and I will obliterate you…slowly.”

“Dad, are you serious? I didn’t think I would ever have to get the overprotective shit from the god of war.” She shakes her head, but she has a small smile on her face.

Jealousy pours through me again.

“Sir,” Greyson says, “with all due respect, hurting Raven would be like cutting off my own arm. She’s my fated mate. I will never hurt her.”

I brace myself to run from the inferno I’m sure Ares is about to unleash on Greyson.

Ares laughs and finally shakes Greyson’s hand like he’d passed some weird test.
