“Everything we’ve tried to use to wipe the shit off bursts into flames,” Greyson says with a grimace.

I fumble with the stuff in my bag, half tempted to just dump it out to find the bottle faster, but I’m afraid I’ll break the bottle in the process.

“Here.” I finally get the bottle and dropper out of the bag. “Stick your tongue out, Jayden.”

Jayden’s teeth are gritted so tight with the pain that he takes a beat to comply. Quickly, I drop three precise drops on his tongue and wait. The poison slowly starts to recede as his pale skin flushes with color.

“It will still hurt,” I tell him. “Just warning you. Sometimes when the skin knits back together, it hurts just as bad.”

He nods once and continues to grit his teeth against the pain.

Finally, the paleness of his skin goes away, and pink skin appears beneath the charred flesh.

It’s disgusting, and the smell of burning flesh fills my nose, but at least Jayden will be okay.

I grab the jar of burn cream from my bag and raise an eyebrow at him. “May I? It will help soothe the magical burns.”

He blows out a breath and nods.

“What the fuck were those things?” Tristan’s gruff voice startles me, and I flinch.

I forgot he’s here. I ignore him. Someone else can fill him in. Jayden needs my help right now.

“It’s going to be a little cold, but it will help,” I tell Jayden, ignoring the loud voices around me.

He hisses with the first touch of the cream on his charred skin.

“Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize. You saved us all back there.” He grits out, but the strain slowly leaves his face as I apply the cream.

I leave my hand on his knee a little longer than I really should.

I have no idea why my power reacted that way. How did I electrocute so many of them at one time?

Jayden was poisoned, and my magic just lost all control, systematically destroying our enemies.

Jayden wipes a stray tear from my cheek, his touch electric. “This is a strange reaction for someone who supposedly hates me.”

I didn’t even realize I’m crying. What the hell is wrong with me?

I shrug, pulling away. “I told you, Jayden. I don’t want to see you dead.”

“I think it’s more than that, but keep lying to yourself, Beth.” He grins, and I roll my eyes.

Cocky asshole. He is obviously fine.

I brush my hands off on a towel Raven hands me.

Tristan is pacing, his hands in his hair.

“You people are fucking nuts. Andyou.” He points at me. “Did you just call lightning and zap the shit out of those birds?”

His eyes are wide as he takes a step back.

“How much did you tell him?” I ask Raven.

She shrugs. “We told him the Greek gods are real, and we’re demigods but no one’s parentage or anything. He called me a lunatic, so I stopped.”
