But it issogood. It’s good to be bad.
I can’t help giggling at my own thoughts and don’t miss the strange expressions on their faces by my outburst.
“What? I had a funny thought. Let’s go.” I wave them off and rush over to Raven.
Thia wrings her hands together, tapping her foot. “It’s not that simple. Someone doesn’t want you all getting out of this town alive.”
“So, how the hell are we going to get out of here?” Jayden throws his hands up in frustration.
“I’m risking everything by helping you, but I know of a back road out of here through the garden,” Thia says and chews her lip.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea? We have no interest in the queen’s garden,” Jayden says slowly.
“I don’t want you to get into trouble for helping us,” I whisper, widening my eyes.
Why am I whispering? The other Hesperides and my evil step monster aren’t here.
I shake my head to clear it. This has to be the coffee.
“That’s the only reason I’m suggesting it. I believe you are all telling the truth when you say you didn’t come for the gods’ treasures.” She shrugs and ushers us out of the room.
“Holy shit. Does this mean we’re going to see the grove?” Raven stage-whispers to me, and the guys turn around, shooting her annoyed looks.
“Raven,” I whisper. “It’s not the time.”
“What? I said ‘see.’ I have no interest other than getting to look. Looking isn’t a crime. I don’t take things that don’t belong to me.” Raven sticks her tongue out at them, and Greyson grins, probably thinking dirty thoughts.
“Keep that tongue in your mouth unless it’s in mine.” Greyson chuckles when Raven blushes.
I stare at her slack-jawed. I don’t think I have ever seen her blush before. Coffee makes everything weird.
Yup, it’s definitely the coffee.
“We are all going to need to be alert,” Thia scolds as we get to the elevator. “We aren’t sightseeing here. We are getting you out of here as safely as possible.”
“Thank you, Thia. You are being extremely helpful,” Greyson says, nodding his head to the tiny woman.
“Don’t thank me yet, shifter. You can thank me by getting out of town without my sisters figuring out that I helped you.” She stares at the countdown on the wall of the elevator, never sparing him a look.
“Deal,” I say, because yes, I want out of this town, and I would hate for something bad to happen to Thia because she did the right thing.
She’s going against my evil stepmother right now, and I can’t even begin to tell her how much I appreciate that.
Thia taps her lips with her fingers. “As soon as the doors open, we are going to run. There isn’t anyone in the lobby right now, and I already checked you out. Just run.”
“Got it.” I nod a little too vigorously. “Just run.”
“Go east on Main Street until you see a small dirt road. Careful though because it’s warded so humans can’t see it. Try not to go down the road within sight of them,” Thia says.
We hit the third floor, and I fidget nervously, getting ready to race out of the lobby.
“Continue on that road past the lake until you get to the highway. You should be fine once you hit the highway,” Thia says.
“That’s an hour out of our way, but it’s better than running into the other Hesperides and Ladon,” Raven says, her hands clenching at her sides.
I know her well enough that she’s missing her weapons right now. Coffee and weapons should never go together though.
Raven would likely accidentally stab someone with her sword if she had it right now. I wouldn’t mind if she stabbed Jayden. Maybe just a little poke.
