He waves me over, and I sprint to catch up with him.

“Jayden, can you do your shadow chains thingy?” I ask as he runs up next to me.

“My shadow chains thingy?” He draws out each word, and I desperately want to punch him.

“Shut up. Can you do it or not? I have a theory.” I chew my lip while we run with Greyson and Raven.

“We’re risking our lives on a theory?” Greyson scoffs, and Raven elbows him in the gut.

“Her theories are usually pretty accurate, so be nice,” Raven scolds him.

“What’s the theory?” Jayden asks with suspicion as we turn a corner into a narrow alley.

I hope the damn buildings are insured because that rampaging asshole is too wide to fit through, and therewillbe destruction. I’m sure of it.

The boar bellows out its rage as it rams into the buildings on each side, causing windows to rattle and the ground to rumble beneath our feet, nearly making me lose my balance.

Jayden’s hand steadies me.

“Thanks.”

“There’s going to be so much damage,” Raven groans.

Greyson chuckles. “Don’t worry. It’s all pack land, and everything is insured. Wolves have a tendency to be a rowdy bunch, and shit gets broken a lot. I mean, this is new, but yeah. There are disasters here frequently.”

A crash sounds behind us, and I turn to see part of the building crumbling to the ground at the boar’s feet. It roars as it continues to struggle to get into the alley.

“How far to this place where we can trap it?” Jayden asks, and a warm palm slides to my lower back.

I don’t even bother to flick it off since we’re basically running for our lives, and his hand is obviously not a priority.

It’s definitely not because his warm palm feels so good on my back. Nope. Not at all.

Greyson grimaces. “It’s just a couple more blocks.”

“That thing is gonna leave rubble in its wake the whole way, Greyson. Is this the shortest way?” I jump as more debris crashes to the ground.

The boar snarls when it finally gets in between the buildings, shaking everything around us.

Greyson points ahead. “There’s an open field on the other side of this alley. There will be limited damage.”

Maybe I should stop second-guessing the man since he knows this area better than we do. I nod for him to lead, and we take off as fast as we can, rounding the corner at the end of the alley.

The field opens up in front of us, and I breathe a sigh of relief that there’s very little for the thing to destroy. But it also leaves us out in the open as easy targets.

“Keep your eyes open. Anything can jump out at us out here,” I grumble.

Another boom and the roar of an angry monster sound behind us.

“What else but an angry boar are you expecting to jump out of nowhere?” Greyson asks warily.

“You ever study Greek mythology?” I ask with raised brows, pumping my legs as hard as I can to keep up with the guys’ long legs.

“Yes…”

“Literally any monster you ever read about could jump out at us. This is real. The gods are real, and someone is bringing the dead monsters from myth back to life to try to kill me.”

“Well, shit. Then what are you doing outside the wards of the academy?” Greyson throws his hands up like I’m stupid for leaving.
