“What the fuck is that?” Raven yells.

She jumps out of the car, sword in hand, before I can even tell her.

The sword won’t help her against the Erymanthian Boar.

It’s a thirty-foot tell boar with shaggy fur and revolting black foam falling at its feet from its mouth.

Completely disgusting.

I push open the car door to run after Raven. “That’s an indestructible monster. No hero has ever killed it, only trapped it in chains.”

Jayden grabs my arm before I can get out. “Who defeated it? I don’t remember this one.”

“Heracles’s fourth labor, but he didn’t kill it. He chained it. We need to find a place that’s reinforced steel and trap it inside. It’s the only way to stop it.” I pull away and jump from the car, racing after Raven.

The boar’s got its beady eyes on Greyson, but other pack members keep getting in the way in their shifted and human forms.

Who the fuck sent the boar after Greyson? How do they even know about him? It doesn’t make any sense.

The only person other than us who knows anything about Greyson is Rebecca. It can’t be her though, can it?

Why would she consult the Oracle and send us away to find the students if she was behind all this?

Maybe she told someone about him? But who would she have told and why?

One pack member creeps too close to the boar’s stomping feet and screams as he’s kicked in the chest. He’s sent flying into two others, and they all fall like dominos.

“Raven,” I yell. “I know what that is.”

“What is it?” she yells back.

She has twin blades in her hands, and I nearly chuckle. That woman has more weapons than some women have pairs of shoes.

“Erymanthian Boar. It’s fucking indestructible,” I say.

Raven curses and shouts a warning to a wolf dancing too close.

“How do I kill it?” she asks, and I know she is not going to like my answer.

“You don’t. Not even Heracles could kill it. He trapped it in iron chains.”

“Fuck, fuck, fuck. Why is it after Greyson?” she shouts.

The wind shifts just slightly. The big ugly boar sniffs the air like a dog and turns its attention on me.

That’s more like it.

The boar howls, looking back and forth between Greyson and me. Fuck, the damn thing needs to chase me, not the wolf.

“We need a place to trap it,” I yell across the yard to Greyson. “It will have to be reinforced steel, or it will be able to get out.”

The boar turns to me, and a little whining growl leaves its mouth before it makes a decision. It turns, charging at Greyson.

Monsters want me dead, but this boar obviously has orders to kill Greyson. The Oracle said we need him, and Raven will never be the same if something happens to him.

If I thought it was chaos before, I have no idea what to call this. Pack members try to block the boar from getting to their alpha, but the monster just bowls right through them without stopping.

“Get out of the way,” Greyson yells to his pack. “I know where we can trap it. Come on.”
