Jayden chuckles and squeezes my hip. “I’m going to take a shower real fast.”

He kisses my temple and saunters away.

I peer at Raven through my lashes, still blushing.

She is practically bouncing up and down in excitement with a huge grin on her face.

“What?”

“Finally,” she whoops, fist pumping the air. “Girl, spill.”

She closes the door to the bedroom and sits on the bed with her leg beneath her.

“There’s nothing to spill.” I shrug, grabbing my bag and digging through it to look for something I can wear to the club.

“You were just sucking his face off, B. And this time, there was no magic at play. So. Spill.”

“No. I’m not saying a word. Except that I have been finding it harder to be angry at him the last few days.”

“That does not translate to sucking face with him,” Raven points out with raised brows.

“I know, I’m just not sure if this is such a good idea. Starting something with him while away from the academy is what got us in this mess in the first place. Am I making a huge mistake?”

“I don’t think Jayden is a masochist, Beth.” Raven scoffs. “He has been more miserable than ever these last months. He won’t break your trust again.”

“Do I know that, though? Really? I mean yeah, he said that and all kinds of sweet things to me, but I also didn’t think he would do what he did the last time. Plus, Mia is fucking grabby all the time.”

“I’m starting to wonder…”

I turn to her expectantly.

“What? What are you wondering?” I wave my hand at her to get her to continue, and she grimaces.

“I’m starting to wonder if this is about Jayden at all or your own insecurities.” She turns away when I glare at her.

“My own insecurities,” I repeat slowly.

Is she right? Do I have my own insecurities that are holding me back from Jayden?

I mean, when we got to the academy and I first saw her, I remember thinking how beautiful she is, all the way up until she ran into Jayden’s arms and rubbed up against him.

“Yeah, Beth. It didn’t take long to see that she is completely vapid and that Jayden had no interest in her, but you held on to the anger and hurt a lot longer than was healthy. What changed?” She leans back on the bed.

“He’s acting like he did on the way to the academy again, and it’s fucking with my head.”

“He’s acting like Jayden without all the growly overprotective shit,” she agrees with a nod.

“I’m just afraid of what happens when we get back. Where fucking Mia is.” I sigh.

I am talking in circles here. I know it, but I can’t exactly stop it. It’s honestly giving me a headache.

“And, like I already told you, Jayden isn’t one to make the same mistakes twice. If you remember correctly, he pushed Mia away several times before we ever left the academy.” She grins, standing. “Ah, Jayden, if I didn’t know any better, I would think you went to the shower without a change of clothes on purpose.”

Raven grins, and I spin to find Jayden in nothing but a towel.

Shit. That is not good for my senses.

The hard planes of his chest are on clear display. Water droplets drip down over his chest and abs.
