“My blood?” Cole questioned in confusion. “Ellie, what’shappening again. Talk, so I know what the hell is going on with you.”
“I feel like my insides are shriveling. Your blood is the most delicious smell in the world to me.” I licked my parched lips, “It’s like a monster is controlling everything.”
I started fighting the restraints, only to feel like 500-pound weights were attached to them, fighting against my struggle to remove them.
“Braden’s blood. Why don’t you want him anymore?”
I looked at Braden, but his blood was still tainted smelling. I curled my lips in disgust at the taste that was on my tongue from imagining drinking from him. “I don’t know. His blood smells bitter and disgusting.”
“Well, that saves my ass until we figure this out.” Braden came over and sat next to me. “And this shit is going to get figured out quick because I can’t handle looking at you in restraints like a turned human. This is fucking bullshit,” he said, looking back to where Cole stood, staring down at his phone.
“Why won’t the fucker answer his damn phone?” he said. He held the phone to his ear and studied me. “Edgar might have answers. He dabbled in dark magic before he left Sacred Shadows.”
“Sacred Shadows?” I questioned, trying to let the stench of Braden’s blood keep my craving Cole’s blood at bay. The monster didn’t like whatever it was that Cole put in Braden to heal him.
“An enchanted institute for witches who want to harness the power of their magic,” Braden rolled his eyes while he answered. “It’s a bullshit con to get young and unsuspecting witches into blood magic.”
“Who would create a place like that? Can’t it be stopped?”
“It’s Enzo’s witches who run the shithole. We can’t find the place. We found out about it after Edgar and a handful of witches escaped once they realized they were being turned into soldiers for Enzo’s war.”
“That bastard never stops, does he?” I said in disgust.
“Nope,” Cole said, glaring at his phone.
Braden wrapped a blanket around me. “You still disgusted by the scent of my blood?” he questioned.
“Yes,” I answered. “It’s actually muting Cole’s blood so I can think.”
“What the hell did you put in Braden?”
“Your life-blood,” Cole answered and as he brought the phone to his ear again. “Where the hell is Edgar?” he demanded the person on the other line.
“Keeping a witch off your ass.” At first, I thought I had the super vamp hearing down until I realized Logan’s voice was coming through the front door, not Cole’s phone.
“What the fuck? Why is Elle in warded cuffs?” Zac questioned Braden and Cole. “What the fuck kind of BDSM—”
“Oh my GOD!” I screamed as the overwhelming smell of blood filled the room. I ground my teeth together and tried to rip the restraints apart. The room was thick with the smell of blood my insides now burned for. “I NEED IT!” I growled in some demonic voice.
“Need what?” Logan looked around the room until his eyes fell on my fangs. “What the hell? She’s a goddamn vampire now?”
“Everyone calm the fuck down.” Cole’s alpha voice snapped the tension out of the air in that second. “Logan, Zac, follow me to the pool house, and I’ll explain everything.” He looked back at Braden, “You have her original life-blood in you. Her blood is mixed in your veins and won’t burn off for a while.”
“Go explain shit to Logan and Zac. Elle can tell me what happened while I was out.”
As the vampires left the living room, my heart rate picked up when I heard Zac say he got a letter from the witch who turned me into this monster and that they rushed back because they thought she had killed me.
Little did they know, she did. I wasn’t normal Elle anymore. I was their enemy now. I was the dangerous one. What did this witch turn me into anyway? Vampire Zero? Was I the first of my kind to take down immortals? Was she testing me out on my vampires to see if I would be the weapon she used against Enzo? If she could turn me into an immortal vampire killing machine, why would she have ever wanted our child? What the hell was she really planning in the whole revenge plot to take Enzo out because he broke her demented heart?Fuck. How the hell were we ever going to reverse this ancient dark magic now? We were so screwed.
Chapter Six
It felt like an eternity had passed with me staring at Braden’s muscular physique, his brilliant aquamarine eyes, chiseled features—pretty much the beauty of the robust man—before he spoke.
“How are you feeling, Ellie?” he softly rubbed along my legs that I had pulled tightly into my chest.
“Like the bitch created a monster to kill all of you and I have no control over it.” I slumped forward and rested my chin on top of my knees. “Brade, I can’t control any of this. The only thing that the monster seems to answer to is Cole using some kind of alpha command, and then it shuts up.”
“You think she planted something in you?” His thick eyebrows drew together. “Baby, she turned you.” He leaned forward, and thank God his blood was sour to my senses because I definitely needed his reassuring touch when he ran the back of his knuckles down my cheek. “It’s natural to feel like a demon has taken over because the cravings your body will have now will overrule your human senses.”
