Maybe this is dangerous.

Or maybe I'm learning how to surf.

If… uh… if it were possible to surf a tsunami. I mean, uh… God, I need work on my metaphors.

"Something I should know?" His voice drops to a low, dirty tone.

"Don't tell me you're into the idea of two girls hooking up." I roll my eyes. "Why are guys into it?"

"Guys? Or me?"

"Guys."

"They think the girls are secretly desperate for dick. That when they show up, the girls will fall all over each other trying to suck them off."

I guess that makes sense. It's stupid, but it makes sense. "Some girls do that. Make out for guys' entertainment value."

"You?" He slides his arm around my waist.

I should pull away. This is Holden's party. His friends are everywhere. They might recognize us.

But I don't.

I can't.

It's physically impossible. "You know me. I do whatever it takes for a man's attention. There's nothing I love more than pretending I'm interested in… anything, really."

"You've never faked interest in something for a guy?" he asks.

"Am I supposed to?"

His chuckle is low, hearty. "I love that about you."

"You love—" The word feels so good in my ears. On my lips. "You love what about me?"

"You barely know about the usual bullshit people do."

"I know about it…" Sorta. "I mean, when Forest was dating his ex, he pretended he loved coffee. But he really thinks it tastes like dirt."

"No," he says.

"Yes." I nod. "He's never told you?"

Chase chuckles. "Only every time we go to a coffee shop."

"Oh." My cheeks flush. "Sometimes I forget you're best friends." I want to forget. I want this to be easier.

He nods. "Me too."

"Why do um… why do you like the idea of two girls together?"

"What's not to like?"

I have no idea how to answer that.

He chuckles. "I guess I just like to watch." His fingers skim the waist of my skirt. "I'd watch you with anyone."

"But then I'd be with someone else."
