Maybe I should find out because I’ve never seen Logan so, what’s the word, enraged.

Grayson walks off and leaves me with the big brood that looks like he can melt the ice with his eyes.

“What the fuck is up with you two?” I find myself asking, as I see that Logan is watching Grayson leave the rink.

“Nothing,” he answers all too quickly. “What did he offer you?” he asks quickly changing the subject.

“What?”

“He said something about an offer. What did he offer you?” he asks again, no sign of teasing or joking in his tone.

Seriously, what is wrong with him?

“A lawyer for Sophia. If the one she has now didn’t work out, he offered to make some calls.” I answer, finding this whole interaction weird as hell. “What’s going on with you? What the fuck is going on between you and Lane?”

“Nothing.” He gives me again. “I just don’t like the guy. He and his whole family are a bunch of snakes.”

“Snakes?” What the hell?

Living in Chicago these last few years, I’ve definitely heard my fair share of things about the Lane family, but nothing bad. I can’t help but to wonder if Logan knows something that the rest of us don’t.

“Yup. Watch your back when it comes to him.”

Okay then.

I guess our team owner isn’t as cool as I thought.

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

SOPHIA

“Jacobi! What is wrong with you?! You can skate faster than that! Get your shit together!” I yell toward the ice. A few heads turn in my direction, but I don’t care. This is my version of cheering on my boyfriend and I’m tired of keeping quiet.

Boyfriend.

Blake is my boyfriend. That is definitely going to take some getting used to.

But it feels so good calling him that.

“Oh, I’ve missed you yelling like that,” Chloe says from where she sits next to me in the stands at the Knights arena as we watch them play Boston. Tonight, Chloe was able to get a babysitter for Emma, and come to the game with me for somewhat of a girl’s night. A girl’s night while we watched our men work.

“I’ve missed it too. It seems like it’s been forever since I’ve heckled him.” I say, giving her a smile.

“It has. I’ve also missed you coming to games. Sitting up in the suite with the other girlfriends and wives is not the same.”

Tears start to spring in my eyes at her comment. I missed coming to games too and if it wasn’t for Elijah and my fear of what he would do, I would have come every chance that I got.

“Chloe, I’m sorry. I basically abandoned you this season. I wanted to come, I did, I just didn’t want to make things any more complicated than what they were.”

My friend reaches over and takes my hand in hers and gives me a good squeeze. “Do not apologize. The situation that you were in was definitely a bad one and you were trying to do everything you could to make sure things didn’t escalate.” Her own set of tears start to form in her eyes. “Do I wish you would have told me so that I could help you somehow? Sure, but I understand why you didn’t. So don’t apologize. Please. Even if some of the other WAGS didn’t understand me like you did.”

I let out a laugh and wipe my tears away. “Aren’t you considered like one of the head WAGs, though, since you’re the captain’s girlfriend?”

I may have only been in the WAG’s club for almost three weeks but I know a bit about how the elite club works.

“Apparently, but I don’t want that title. This time last year, I didn’t even know a fraction of the hockey lingo that I know now. I’m not qualified.” She gives me a smile, as she wipes her own tears away, and I can’t help but to laugh again.

“I needed that little laugh,” I say to her, squeezing her hand in the process.
