“Rafe…” I said slowly. He raised his eyebrows, offering me a smirk. “Why did you have me scramble the Sensor’s memories?”

I’d been fuming when he’d texted me that morning. Not only had he interrupted a beautiful daydream of me and Skye, but then he was asking me to drop everything, leave campus, and go to the testing center so that I could scramble Shafer’s mind, at Shafer’s own request, no less. Rafe hadn’t bothered to share why or how this was happening, he’d only called in a favor I’d owed him since we were teenagers.

Now things were falling into place.

Shafer was a Sensor.TheSensor for the West Coast. And he’d asked to have his memory altered, though he knew better than to let me look for a specific memory. He’d only wanted to remember his deceased Link, wife and children.

He lied,I whispered through the mind-link we’d shared since we were kids.

Rafe pursed his lips, nodding curtly in agreement.

Both our minds went blank, refusing to even think the words. If a Sensor was scared enough to have his memories altered, off-record, after having tested Skye…

Rafe cleared his throat, then steepled his fingers, resting his hands against his chin.

“We’re in the same Chain,” he announced.

I reared back. “What?”

My hands clenched into fists the next moment. He’d been messing with my computer again. Which meant…

“You’ve been stalking her.”

Rafe’s dark eyes flashed toward mine in warning.

“And you’re judging me for my interaction with her?” I hissed.

“Do you tongue fuck her mouth every time you see her, or just today?” He shot back and I cringed.

“I didn’t mean to.” I mumbled, not willing to share the fact thatyes, actually, the last time we saw each other we also made out.

Rafe chuckled darkly. “That all looked rather intentional to me.”

I clenched my jaw.

Rafe sighed before leaning back onto the couch again. “Aiden Brandt is in the Chain, too.”

“For fuck’s sake,” I groaned before rubbing my chin. “He was just in that altercation with her and the Iykos’.”

Rafe’s lips settled into a thin line. Then, he spoke into the mind-link,She knocked Landon out during Health class. She’s been tripping the bastard every time she sees him but he threatened Aiden that day, and she knocked him out.

I gulped.

I missed the altercation with the Iykos’. What happened, exactly?

I blew out a breath before I explained.Landon was drunk, started some shit, started a fight. Aiden defended Skye. Lana showed up, threatened Aiden, and–

My thoughts cut off abruptly, and Rafe nodded grimly.

Aiden Brandt was definitely in the Chain. Skye’s brutal defense of him wasn’t a one-off. It’d happened twice, against two different people, in two different situations.

I stiffened, my mind only just now remembering the most disturbing detail from the altercation.

Willow says Skye took Lana’s oxygen and let her choke for a minute.

Rafe’s eyes widened and he sat up straighter.

How ruthless,he commented with a grin. I rolled my eyes. Of course that excited the psycho.
