Lana. She did this toLana,I stressed. Rafe narrowed his eyes, confused.Lana the Paralyzer?

Rafe’s eyes widened in understanding and he scrubbed his hands over his face, then he furrowed his brow.

Yet Lana asked you to scramble her…was that to hide something about Skye or to hide the fight in general, so the Brandts don’t find out?

What would she be hiding about Skye? Maybe she’s a Shield. The moment I voiced the thought, I winced. There was no way Skye was a Shield. The Sensor wouldn’t have lied for a Shield. Lana wouldn’t be lying because of a Shield.

Rafe shot me a bored look.

You don’t really believe that do you?

I shrugged.

Rafe exhaled slowly before sitting up straight, looking me right in the face.

I know you know you didn’t lock that door.

I stopped breathing.

As Rafe and I stared at each other, my phone vibrated on the desk, but we both ignored it. Our stand-off was more important than whoever the fuck was trying to get a hold of me.

What should we do?I asked, a little desperately. If Alejandro finds out–

Rafe hissed at the mention of his father’s name.I’ll deal with dearAlex. You focus on keeping Dick off her trail.

I snorted. Rafe and I had called my father Dick since we were teenagers.

Rafe eyed my phone, vibrating for the second time on my desk, lit up with Willow’s blue glare.

“Shit,” I said out loud, my mouth going dry. I never liked answering a call from my sister, but I knew this one was going to trigger a migraine.

“I’m guessing you hadn’t told your sister that her new bestie is your Key,” Rafe said casually, failing to hide his shit-eating grin.

“Get your laughs out now,” I snarked. “The Princess is going to flip her shit when she finds out.”

Rafe blanched as I swiped my phone open to answer the call.

Chapter 27

Skye

“YOU REJECTED YOUR KEY?!ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?!”

Mia and I cringed as Willow screeched into her phone.

After Wyatt had pulled a complete one-eighty on me, I’d run straight back to my dorm, hoping I could find a few minutes of peace to breakdown properly, but my two friends had been waiting for me, hoping I’d be up for dinner.

Through blubbering sobs, I’d explained what happened, including the part about Wyatt,Willow’s brother, being the hot asshole from the café. Willow had shrieked, blasting both Mia and I with water, before rummaging through her bag and finding her phone.

“There’s no talking her out of this,” Mia had assured me softly while we changed into dry clothes. “Just let her handle him.”

Now, Willow was sobbing while screaming at Wyatt over the phone. I was torn between pride in my friend for defending me, and a weird tension at how Willow yelled at Wyatt.

Biology was a bitch.

“What the actual fuck is wrong with you? Do you haveanyidea how much you’re hurting her?! And how the fuck are you socalm?!”

Willow was quiet for a moment while a tiny voice argued with her.
