Karvik shifted me ever so slightly on his skull, which placed my clit in a position to get direct attention with the rounded grooves of his fangs.

I forgot how to breathe as my body burned and I rushed to my climax while the edges of my vision darkened. When Karvik nuzzled me one final time, I came apart, screaming my release to a cloudless sky.

Karvik quickly rose to his full height, lifting me from the lake so he could greedily lick up the evidence of my pleasure. All the while, my body shook in his hands with aftershocks nearly as powerful as my climax.

When he’d finished, Karvik cradled me in his arms and carried me back to shore.

Lying beside him, I closed my eyes and let the sun dry my skin and hair.

“I love you.” My breath rustled Karvik’s fur.

Karvik’s claw drew lazy circles on my hip. “I love you more.”

“I don’t think that is possible since I’ve known about love much longer. I think it is only logical that I would also be able to love more.”

“I will let you believe that, little one.” Karvik used the tone that said he was older and therefore wiser, but he was humoring me.

“Hmpf,” I huffed.

“Rest, Juniper. Tomorrow, we will walk to the city.”

Excited, I shoved myself upright and grinned down at him. “Really?”

“Yes.” Karvik twirled a lock of my blonde hair between his fingers. “I gathered more of the money from the cave, so you can buy whatever you need.”

Over the years, Karvik had collected the various items humans had dropped or left around the forest and had dumped them into caves scattered around this region.

Human trash in the forest disgusted Karvik. I found it sweet that a monster was bothered by litter and took the time to clean up what he found.

He’d assured me that they weren’t from people he’d eaten, unless they were treating another human or animal cruelly. And I chose to believe him.

But I might not need his collected funds as much in the future.

I’d purchased a camera on one of our first trips to the city. Traveling with Karvik had given me access to areas rarely seen by humans. We’d also experienced weather conditions most people avoided, giving me a unique opportunity to capture many breathtaking images.

Two months ago, I’d submitted my landscape photography portfolio to a well-respected agent… using a pseudonym, of course. The agent had loved my work, and last month we’d worked out a licensing agreement that meant I’d be getting a monthly royalty check to my post office box.

The first one may have already arrived!

There was shopping to do as well. I needed equipment for my camera, but more importantly, I needed to restock my dwindling chocolate bar stash.

I hid a smile, thinking about the last errand I wanted to run. Last time I’d been in the city, I’d purchased a piece of black lingerie that covered my chest and stomach in a dizzying array of silk straps.

While Karvik had no use for clothes and found them annoying, he’d been like a kid at Christmas when presented with the opportunity to “unwrap” me.

Unfortunately, his claws had rendered the garment unusable after that first time, but I was eager to buy another to surprise him with.

“Are you happy, love?” Karvik stroked my cheek.

“More than you could imagine.” I snuggled back into the crook of his arm.

He’d stolen me away from my past life in order to save me, and somehow, he’d stolen my heart in the process.

Chapter Twenty

Karvik

Intheheartofthe wilderness, where the ancient trees stood sentinel and the murmuring streams sang a timeless lullaby, Juniper and I had built a new life that defied the odds.
