“I second that statement. I mean, did you see—” Tripp starts, but I cut him off.
“I’m going to go ahead and stop you. If it’s about either of our sisters, keep it to your fucking self.” The statement comes off as concern for Adam, but that’s just my cover. I will not do well if he starts talking about my Callie.
“Yeah, I think it’s best we all just move on from that moment completely,” Adam adds.
Not able to help myself I look toward the bar seeing Callie in the little dress again.Fuck me. Her eyes find me and she winks before turning her attention back to the bar.
“Agreed,” I grunt, coming back to reality. “Let’s talk about literally anything else.”
Our table goes silent again with this awkward tension filling the air.
“So…” Beck starts, but nothing follows it, so he just starts picking at the label on his beer.
The silence continues and it’s borderline uncomfortable.
Tripp takes a drink of his beer then sighs. “Can we just talk about?—”
In unison, Adam, Beck, and I all cut him off with a resounding, “No.”
We remain in our awkward silence for what feels like several minutes until the girls finally come back. Callie takes the seat in between me and Adam. My sisters take the end seats and Jensen across from Callie in the middle of Beck and Tripp.
“So, Beck, are we rematching on pool tonight?” Callie asks.
Beck finishes off his beer with a sigh. “Oh, hell yeah. Let’s make it interesting, though.”
“Oh?” Callie shuffles in her chair and crosses her legs.
I know it’s risky, but her leg is pretty hidden under the table, and I’ll seek out any contact I can get. Leaning up, I rest my hand on her knee and a slight smile comes to her face.
“How do you feel about teams, Callie Bear?” Beck sits back in his chair. “Are you as strong when you’re not playing one-on-one?”
Callie rolls her eyes. “I’m pretty strong, I don’t mind carrying the weight. I’ll still kick your ass.”
I squeeze her leg because if anyone is going to be her partner it’s me. And somehow, I’m sure Beck has a plan to make that happen. As flirty as Beck is with Callie, he’s had our backs since he found out.
“Alright.” Beck claps. “Who’s in? We could go full tourney style.”
“I’m in,” I say.
“Me too,” my sisters say at the same time. I shoot them both thankful looks, I didn’t even have to ask they just followed my lead.
And with Jensen joining next, it’s not exactly surprising that Adam and Tripp follow.
Beck shoots a quick look around the table and pauses on Callie for a second. “Okay, ladies, since you are always right…look to your right, and you’ve got your teammate.”
Callie turns her head to her right and looks right at me with a smile. “How are your pool skills, partner?”
Beck’s the wingman of the century.
Abandoning our table, we all head over to the pool tables. Callie and I play against Reagan and Tripp first, while Beck and Jensen play Adam and Lucie at the table next to us.
While I’m not terrible at pool, Callie’s amazing at it, so we beat Reagan and Tripp pretty quickly. Granted, it also had to do with the fact that Reagan and Tripp were quite possibly the worst pairing out of our whole group. The two are practically the same person. However, I’ve noticed Reagan missing some pretty easy shots.
Beck and Jensen take the win on their table and when Beck suggests that the losers can play each other, my sisters shrug.
“Or we could just go back to the table and drink?” Reagan says.
Lucie hooks her arm around Reagan. “Oh, I would love a giant pizza. Adam, Tripp, you guys coming?”
