“How are we going to do this? Good cop? Bad cop?”
“How about Bad Cop, Worse Cop?” Andy looked at her and grinned. “From my investigation, nothing seems to bother Kristen, unless it’s the threat of losing money.”
“Shit, and with Lorna not living at home any longer, she loses over fifty thousand a month.”
“Yeah, powerful motivator. I don’t want to go in all goody, goody. I want to go in hard and fast. Don’t give her any time to think. Hit her with demands as to where Lorna is.”
“I agree.”
They pulled into the driveway and Andy had to slam on the brakes so as to not to hit the town car in front of them. They both jumped out, and Ronnie waited for Major to join them. As they approached the car, the driver’s door opened and Marvin Hepplewaite exited.
“What are you doing here?” He asked Andy, then only raised his brow at Ronnie.
“Marvin?” Ronnie asked. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to personally tell Kristen that I’m cutting off all her funds. I’ll show her the report you gave me, Ball.”
“No!” They both yelled. They took him by the elbow and walked him to the other side of Andy’s SUV, away from the house.
“Don’t, Sir. Please, I beg you not to do it. At least, not yet.”
“What’s going on?” He swiveled his head back and forth to the two of them.
Ronnie took matters into her own hands. “Yesterday, Lorna became upset during your meeting. A friend of Andy’s was able to get it on tape that Kristen assaulted Lorna outside her office building. Lorna walked away, but early this morning, Lorna’s car was found wrecked and abandoned. Again, Andy’s friend was able to access the street and business cameras in the area and we all saw the man with Kristen yesterday, toss Lorna in a van and drive away with her. She’s missing and we don’t know where she is. Andy and I are here to get answers.”
“Fuck,” Marvin said, and paced. After several minutes, he looked at them. “What do you want me to do?”
“We suspect the man holding her was hired by Kristen to kidnap Lorna, then to extort money from you for a ransom.”
“And I’ll pay it.”
“No, you willnot.” Andy turned and glared at him. “Not until we have proof of life. Sir, as we speak I have five top military men in my apartment making plans to go after Lorna when we know her location.” He pulled his phone out and made a call. “Guys, we ran into a little snag, but I’m going to leave my phone on, so you can listen and gather any intel you can.”
“What kind of snag?”
“Marvin Hepplewaite is here. He was about to tell Kristen he’s cutting off all her financial support. We’ve convinced him to wait. He’s going to go in with us and we’ll see if the three of us can’t get some information.”
“Roger, we can hear you. I’ll record it from this end,” Brain said. Andy looked at Marvin and asked, “You good with this?”
“I am, are we going to do good cop, bad cop?”
“No,” Ronnie giggled. “Bad, badder, and baddest.”
Marvin grinned. “Sounds like a plan, and I remember, you’re Veronica Larson.”
“Soon, it’s Parker, but I’ll be marrying Finn soon. We need to get Lorna back, because she’s my maid of honor.”
“Let’s do this,” Marvin said, and Ronnie swore the man looked ten years younger as he shook his body and stood taller. “It’s about time I stopped cowering before that bitch. If one hair on my daughter’s head is harmed, she’s going down.”
“That’s the spirit,” Ronnie gave him a high five, and the three of them stormed up the drive. It was Andy who used his closed fist to pound on the door. Once he started, he didn’t stop until it was thrown open by an irate Kristen.
“Where is she?” Andy demanded, not giving Kristen a chance to say one word. The three of them stormed inside, and backed Kristen up into a totally different room. When she fell onto a sofa, Andy got in her face. “We know you had Lorna kidnapped. Where is she? And don’t fucking lie to us, bitch, we know everything.”
“Who the hell are you?”
“None of your fucking business. Tell me where you’re having Lorna held.”
“I don’t have to tell you anything. Get out of my house before I call the police.”
