“Myhouse,” Marvin said, and looked down his nose at Kristen. “I pay all the bills here, so it’smy house. Where is my daughter?” When Kristen stared at him in shock, he also got into her face. “I said, where is my daughter?”
Kristen remained silent and Andy blew out his breath in anger. “I swear, bitch, if you weren’t a woman, I’d cold-cock you.”
“I’ll do it,” Ronnie said from behind the two men, then leaned in, gripped Kristen’s jaw like she did her patients while trying to get a pill down their throat and squeezed. “Where is she, bitch?” When no answer came, Ronnie pulled her hand back and slapped the other woman so hard, her head swung around and slammed into the wooden edge of the couch. When she looked back at them, the three jumped back in horror.
“What the fuck, Ronnie?” Andy looked at her in shock. “You broke her face.”
Kristen reached up and put her hands on her face and screamed, she shoved them to the side and ran to a mirror. Then the screaming grew louder.
Ronnie giggled. “Yep, I think I dislodged those cheek implants she has.” She looked at the other woman, and stepped into her personal space. “Shut up, if one slap dislodged those implants, then you had a shitty plastic surgeon. You can have them fixed, but not until you tell us what you’ve done with Lorna.”
Kristen glared at her and when Ronnie raised a fist, she started blubbering. “It’s all her fault. If she hadn’t moved out, my funds wouldn’t be threatened to be cut off. I need her to live with me, so her father can continue paying me. I have a certain reputation to uphold, you know.”
“Christ,” the three of them said as one. “Where is she?” Ronnie demanded, and used hand signals. This time, Major stepped up to her side and started growling. Kristen screamed loud enough that everyone grabbed their ears, then in a flash of movement, she ended up tied to a chair. Both her legs and feet. Andy stepped back, crossed his arms, and glared. No one said a word, when Kristen tried to look at Ronnie and Marvin, Major growled from her elbow. He even let a puddle of drool land on the back of her hand.
“Okay, okay, she’s in a warehouse on 11th street. It’s the one with the blue door.”
“Who’s holding her?” Ronnie asked.
“Rio Santos. I met him on the cruise. He said he’d help me with my problem.”
“You think Lorna’s a problem?” Andy demanded. “You don’t know anything. If one hair on her head is harmed, you’ll answer to me.”
“Who are you?”
“Your worst nightmare come to life.” Andy stepped back and looked at Ronnie. “You coming?”
“No, Major and I will stay here. We’ll call Amos and get him to come over. Go, go get our girl.”
“Thanks.” Andy and Marvin left on a dead run, and Ronnie turned back to Kristen.
“Why, why are you so stupid? Lorna is the most wonderful person anyone could get to know, but you treat her like shit, why?”
“Because, she’s a fat cow!” Kristen screamed, then she didn’t say anything else, because Ronnie had punched her again, and knocked her out cold. She looked at Major and grinned. “That took care of that.” Major gave a little woof, then went over and sat to watch the woman, after he was told to guard her. Ronnie walked around and found what she was looking for, and after tying the sash from the curtain around Kristen’s mouth, she drew in a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and dialed.
“Sheriff Bronson.”
“Amos, this is Ronnie Parker.”
“Oh, hey, before you get upset, we’ve run the plates and they did come back to a Lorna Hepplewaite.”
“Yeah, but do you know where Kristen Hepplewaite lives?”
“I do, why?”
“Because I have her tied up in the middle of her living room.”
“WHAT!”
“Yeah, you might want to come over. I have some things to tell you.” She hung up then called Finn. After telling him what she’d done, she breathed easier, when it turned out that her calling the police to Kristen’s home, it took them on the opposite side of town as to where Lorna was being held. Giving the people about to rescue Lorna a clear shot without any local disturbance.
Ronnie pulled a straight-back chair from the dining room and set up a few feet away from Kristen, she didn’t want to get in the way when she woke up, but she kept an eye on her. The only thing that made her glad, was that she had refused to take the gun Andy had offered her. She knew she was in a shitstorm of trouble, but it would be lesser if she didn’t have any weapons on her. For her best friend, she’d take the charges thrown at her.
Chapter 30
Lorna slowly woke, and this time she didn’t cry out in pain. As she listened, the only thing she heard was the steady drip, drip, drip, of an annoying faucet dripping into a sink, or a pool of water. It irritated the hell out of her. It wouldn’t be until much, much later that she realized it was her own blood. She slowly opened her eyes, and couldn’t see anything in the dark. The last time she’d been awake, there had been daylight shining through the windows. Now, nothing. She froze when she thought she heard a scuffle of feet across the floor. Suddenly she felt a man’s body pressed up against her from behind and a hand covered her mouth. Before she could react, she heard, “Sh, it’s Patch. We’re here to rescue you.” Then the man’s face took up her whole vision. Lorna sagged in relief.
“You’re trussed up in chains,” he whispered in her ear. “Waiting on the bolt cutters.”
