Prince Darkness. In all his glory. And I just wanted to deck him. “I wasn’t meaning to. Honestly.”
With a huge sigh, he turned toward me, crossing his arms in the process. “What is it? You’re far too overdressed for hopping in the shower with me.”
My head snapped back. He went from hardly speaking to me at all tothat? “I wasn’t aware that was a part of our agreement.” I gave my head a little shake to keep that visual out of my head.
“No need to look so aghast,” he offered.
I looked up at the ceiling, trying to get us back on topic. “Are you sending me home at the final eight?”
He stilled. “What?”
I held my arms out and looked around the bathroom. “Look. You’re pissed at me. You are annoyed I’m in your space. You are biting my head off so often I’m not even sure it’s still attached to my body. I get it. It’s just that you asked me to keep you informed of my master plans, but now I’m asking you to extend me the same courtesy. Is the reason for all this emotional whiplash because you are gearing up to send me home? Because if that’s the case, Silvia should really not stress over this Hallows’ Eve gown to the extent in which she curren—”
“No.”
“No, she should not stress over the gown?”
He shook his head. “No, I am not sending you home at eight. I figured after the lengths I went to get you, I’d have to keep you until at least four.” He gave me a nod. “So sorry, love, but you’re stuck with me.”
I gave my head a shake. “Okay. That’s fine.”
“Is it?”
I brought my hands up to my temples. “Krew, yes. It’s fine. As long as you don’t continue to snap at me for the next however many weeks.”
He swallowed and rubbed his lips together before answering me. “I wasn’t intending to. I was trying to give you space.”
I shrugged. “Well, I thought you were annoyed that I am always in your wing, so I’ve been trying to make myself scarce.”
The prick had the nerve to snort. “As if you could.”
Sick of the back and forth of his moods, I spun to leave. I guess I could figure out tonight on the go.
“Jorah.” His voice stopped me.
I spun back slowly.
“I did not mean to make you question your place in my Assemblage. Or cause you any stress. I was just truly trying to give you some space.”
I looked at the ceiling again. “Well, when you go from snapping my head off and rarely being here, to then I assume publicly flirting with me tonight, it confuses the hell out of me, Krew. I don’t know how to not tense up under your touch when you do this to me.”
“Noted,” he said with a nod, his eyes never leaving mine.
“So are we back to flirting tonight?” I demanded to know.
“We are.”
I let out a sigh. “Great. Perfect. I’ll see you down there. Have a nice shower.”
He ate up the space between us, reaching for my hand and stopping me from leaving.
I wanted to yank my hand away after this hot and cold game he had going, but I supposed it was another test for tonight.
“It’ll be fine, Jorah. Please do not stress.”
It was clearly not fine. He already had my nerves wrecked. “See you down there.”
