I rubbed my temples. “Will we still be color coded?”

She winced. “Yes, but only for a while. After that, you’ll be free to wear whatever color you please.”

I tried not to groan.

“Don’t kill the messenger,” she told me with a pat to my knee.

I looked up and smirked at her. “I could never. Who else would have me looking like this?”

She shrugged. “I am pretty good at it, aren’t I?”

I laughed. I was in tan tonight and were it not for the way Silvia styled my hair and makeup, I was fairly certain I would’ve looked pale and sickly.

“Ready?” Owen asked from the doorway.

I stood, ready to get another night over with. Since our argument in the hallway, Owen and I seemed to tip toe around each other now.

“Good night, Silvia,” I told her.

“Night, my dear!”

“Were you able to get some sleep last night?” Owen asked me in the hallway.

I pursed my lips. “That depends.”

“On what?”

I shrugged. “If my answer will be repeated.”

He did at least look guilty. “I wasn’t asking for Keir. I was just genuinely curious.”

“I slept fine.”For a little while.

“Well, our next trip to Nerede is coming up fast. I have sent correspondence to your mother also,” he informed me.

I sighed. Another trip to Nerede, so another week had come and gone. I hadn’t seen the wolf for a few days, and though I’d like to look for him again, I also didn’t know if I could walk past that spot in the forest and not pass out.

“You do want to go, do you not?” he asked.

“Of course!”

“Okay then. I’ll make it happen,” he said.

I turned to head into the big doors at the staircase and he added, “Be safe.”

So in other words, avoid the king.Got it.

I somehow managed to make it through the meal and most of the evening while avoiding the king and Prince Krewan both. I didn’t know what I’d do if Gwen, Molly, or Renna would go home. I would be lost without them to make the evening more bearable.

“She looks as if she’s going to fall asleep!” Molly whispered to me.

We were somewhat spying on Keir and Aiyana from my window spot. Okay, truthfully we were blatantly spying on them.

I giggled. “I think that she is trying to look sensual.”

“And it is sensual to fall asleep on a man?”

I snickered.
