“This one isn’t even here yet, and she’s already misbehaving,” he said when he carried her back to bed. “She’s going to be a handful.”

“It’s a boy.” Laura Jean laid her head on his chest. “Only a Fairweather man would give me this many problems.”

Ben kissed her forehead. “Want some food?”

Her stomach rumbled in response. “If you don’t feed me in the next few minutes, I’ll not be held accountable for my actions.”

“Omelets it is.”

He set her down and went to pull on his pants but hesitated. “You know, today is probably the only time we’ll have this house to ourselves.”

“Feed me, and we can doclothing optionaluntil it’s time to go.”

Two dimples popped out. “Deal.”

While Ben cooked their breakfast, she brushed her teeth and made the bed. They had completed decorating the master bedroom last night, meaning all the upstairs rooms were ready for the move over.

Per the rules, she walked naked down the hall, the baby fluttering when she passed the nursery. “Soon,” she told her son. “You’re not quite ready yet.”

Next door to the nursery, a room full of pink and lace waited for its princess. Ben had designed Jamison’s room all by himself.

“A crystal chandelier?” she’d asked while he installed the finishing touches. “Don’t you think that’s a little over the top?”

Ben seemed offended that she thought so. “Every princess needs some sparkle.”

Across the hall was Evie’s bedroom, painted in a deep royal purple. Ben had chosen the color and purchased a canopy bed, complete with gauzy lavender drapes. He couldn’t wait to show her.

The boy’s rooms were on the other side of the main staircase. Toby had his own, since he would live with them full time, while Samuel and Selah would share a large corner bedroom when they stayed over.

Sadly, there was no trampoline pit.

“The omelets are almost ready,” Ben said as she entered the kitchen. He did a double take at her naked form. “Nice.”

Opening the refrigerator, Laura Jean dove into the box holding a chocolate cake. She’d bought it for the kids to have after they watched the fireworks later, but this was an emergency.

“This pregnancy is so different from my others,” she said, scooping out a bite. “It has to be a boy.”

Ben plated their food and set it on the bar. “Do you want to eat this, or the cake?”

“Both.”

Pressing his lips together, Ben wisely kept silent waiting for her to join him.

Done with her cake, she slid up to the bar and took a bite of omelet. “Mmm, this is so good.”

“Nothing says I’m pregnant like chasing chocolate cake with eggs.”

They ate standing. The downstairs furniture wouldn’t be delivered until later in the week. “When we get to Haven, I have to meet with Charlie,” Ben told her as they ate. “The condo sale went through yesterday, and he can move in.”

“What about Rebecca?” she asked. “Did he mention when she would be ready to move?”

“He hasn’t told her yet.”

Her fork clattered to the plate. “What?”

“Charlie said he’s going to tell her today.”

“What if she doesn’t agree to this?”
