Sniffling, she nodded against his chest.

Someone banged so hard on the door Anton was certain he’d heard the frame crack.

“Hey! Anybody in there?”

“Let’s go before they call security,” Anton said.

Tamika giggled and rubbed her eyes dry. Taking his hand, she swung open the door. Two men stood outside. One scowled and the other raised an eyebrow.

“Sorry, gentleman. He’s so irresistible, I couldn’t wait until we got home.”

Anton smirked as he walked by the men and then flung an arm around Tamika’s shoulder.

Life would finally get back to normal.

“You should be yelling at me.”

Tamika sat on the bed while Anton crouched before her and carefully removed the shoe from her right foot.

“I’m not going to yell at you,” he said.

“What did I do to deserve you?” she asked.

“Hell if I know,” he replied, grinning up at her from his lowered position.

When both shoes were off, they stood and Tamika started unbuttoning his shirt.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Undressing my man,” she said.

She tugged the tail of his shirt out of his slacks and shoved it off his shoulders. She removed his undershirt and dropped that to the floor, as well. Then she smoothed her hands up his chest, over his nipples and his pecs until they came together around the back of his neck. Heat flared in his eyes as she pressed up against him.

“I love you,” she said.

“I love you, too.” Anton’s arms slipped around her waist.

Tamika looked deeply into his light-brown eyes. “I know we’ve already talked, but there’s something else I need to tell you. I should’ve stayed here and talked to you, and I’m sorry that I didn’t.”

“I understand.”

Gosh, he was such a good guy. “I know you do, but that doesn’t excuse what I did. You were hurting, too.”

“Not like you.”

“Yes, like me. But in a different way. I allowed my grief to take over, and I forgot that you were grieving, too. I promise that won’t happen again.”

Anton kissed her forehead.

“Areyouokay?” Tamika asked softly.

A deep, bone-tired sigh escaped him, and she lowered her arms so that they wrapped around his trunk instead. Rubbing her palms up and down his bare back, she whispered, “Take as much time as you need.”

Anton’s arms tightened around her, and he pressed his face into the side of her neck.

They stood still and held onto each other for an eternity while she absorbed his pain, giving comfort and providing the solace that he needed.
