“Kill you?” She gasped like I just offended her mother or something. Even her hand pressed to her chest like she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Collective gasps and muttering spread around the rest of them, as well.

Rage bubbled up inside me.

“Seriously?” I had to forcefully hold myself back so I don’t walk up to her and punch her in the nose. “You destroyed my business, my home and my life. What else would you call it?”

“We’ve been trying to protect you, Alaska.” A line etched itself between her brows showing she was actually much older than she looked. “The moment your existence was discovered we got involved. It was hard to reach you and warn you when they were everywhere.” That last bit was spat out with venom. “If the situation was not dire we never would’ve come out of the shadows and brought attention to our coven.”

“What in the stars are you talking about?” Dread was pooling in my stomach with each word spoken. Somewhere deep down I knew what was coming and I hated it more than I’ve hated anything else in my life.

Char grabbed my hand and squeezed so tight she cut off the circulation to my fingers. She was adding two and two as well by the looks of it. The woman’s face softened when she undoubtedly saw the desperation in my eyes.

“You look so much like your mother.” She breathed with tears in her eyes and I flinched like she slapped me. “I will explain everything but I need you to come with us. You and your friend, before the pack manages to push through our wards. We can only hold them back so long.”

“And I should trust you why?” My resolve to run was disolving like a sugar cube in a glass of water.

“The wolves want to have you under their thumb so they can keep you ignorant of who and what you are. If you are not properly trained they can and will use you as a tool. We should’ve had this conversation long before now if Anastasia did what she promised. Dimitri Bell, her son, was sent to LA to find you and bring you to us. He failed.”

Betrayal is a bitter pill to swallow, I’d say that much.

It burned fast and hot in my chest. I’d never felt so stupid.

I should’ve known.

“And we are sure that you’re not lying how?” Char spoke for the first time her hold on my hand as tight as ever.

“You don’t need to trust me. You can trust her because she will show you.” The lady pointed with her hand at a woman walking toward us. “This is our seer.”

Long white hair fell loose over her shoulders and it reached the back of her knees. I would’ve thought she was blind but her eyes were keenly locked on something to my side. When I glanced I realized it was Damian she was looking at and the Druid returned the attention with a soft fond smile I’d never seen on his face.

“Damian.” The seer grinned back when she reached us.

“Mother.” The Druid bowed his head and the ground shifted under my feet.

Char holding my hand was the only thing holding me up.

I felt numb.

“Would you come with us, please?” The lady gazed at me hopefully.

“We will come.” Char answered because I couldn’t. my tongue was too thick for my mouth. “Whatever it is we will hear you out before we decide what to do. And you stay away from us traitor.” She snapped at the Druid when he took a step to join us.

“Thank you.” The lady didn’t wait a second longer in case we changed our minds. “Let’s go.”

They all moved as one, excitement adding pep to their steps. I let Char lead me wherever she wanted but I turned around to look at the mansion over my shoulder. Dimitri lied about everything hoping to use me as a power tool. How typical of him. If what the witches were saying was true indeed, I had every intention on destroying Dimitri Bell.

Hopefully he could see my glare from that damn house, too.

“We will hear them out then go, Allie.” Char was mumbling close to my ear. “We can fight our way out if we need to. How bad can it be?”

I squeezed her hand in answer because I was too overwhelmed to talk.

How bad can it be, indeed.

We were screwed.
