“Who’s Alto? Your brother?” it was a logical assumption since he kept mentioning brothers, yet he flinched back, disgust twisting his features.
“The fucking cat.” He spat the word as if it was the vilest thing he had ever spoken.
“Buddy?”
“I see you’ve named the thing, as well.”
“I didn’t name him.” I didn’t like that I sounded defensive. “He is not mine for me to name him. I just called him buddy.”
“You truly are a strange creature, Viola,” Lucien murmured, his gaze dropping to my lips.
“Says the vampire who can walk through walls.” I countered, my own eyes glued to his smirking mouth.
He was going to kiss me.
I felt it in my stomach with certainty like I’ve never felt before. Lucien moved closer, and I did the same, tilting my face up to give him easy access to my mouth. I wanted that kiss more than anything. Heat radiated from his body as my hands pressed to his chest and crawled up toward his neck. His fingers wrapped around my hips, squeezing gently while hunger burned in his gaze. His eyes' blue color -which resembled clear skies usually- darkened like a brewing storm, and he leaned into me.
“Come out, Viola. I think I have something you don’t want to be broken like your violin.” Seraphina’s voice stabbed my brain like a hot poker, and I jerked back from Lucien.
There was no way I would walk out to face her. I acted weird lately, but I was not an idiot.
“Don’t listen to her, Vi. Run.” Harmony shouted, and I was already around Lucian, my hand grabbing the doorknob.
I guess I was an idiot after all.
