I groaned, helpless to the lust rising.
Dalton pulled back, meeting my eyes, and there was something dark there. Something I hadn’t seen before. As muchas the sexy aggressive shit was doing it for me, it was a little out of character.
“What’s up?” I said. “Are you okay?”
“I just need one thing to go right today,” he said, his voice scraping out with a roughness that surprised me. “Please don’t tell me to leave.”
“So don’t leave, then,” I said, nodding toward the beers. “Give me one of those beers and tell me what’s going on.”
Dalton pulled a beer from his six-pack, then collapsed into the chair that Matteo had vacated. “Nothing you want to hear about.”
I sat down and kicked his foot. “Tell me anyway.”
He sighed. “Just some shit with Dallas. He was driving drunk.”
“I can’t believe that asshole gets to run around town like nothing happened, after he harassed Emory.”
“Yeah, it’s shitty, but his dad protects him. That’s why the mayor wants me to run for sheriff in the next election.”
“No shit?”
“I don’t want to do it,” Dalton said quickly. “But shit, Hale is really bad. They need to find someone to run, and Hale needs tolosebecause we can’t go on this way. Dallas is dangerous, and it’s not just him. Hale gets a lot of favors from his buddies, and those favors come with strings.”
“Ugh, I knew he was a shithead after the night we went to jail for the bar fight with Dallas,” I said.
Dalton winced. “Yeah, sorry about that.”
He’d been at the bar that night, and he’d cuffed me and Bailey while Sheriff Hale arrested Emory and Gray. No one had put cuffs on Dallas—shocking exactly no one. Daltonhadstood up for us, though. He’d told the sheriff that Dallas started the fight and insisted no charges be filed against any of us if they weren’t going to include the sheriff’s son.
The sheriff would never stand for Dallas going down, so we’d all walked free.
“It’s not your fault Hale plays favorites with his son.”
“No, but I work for him, and frankly, it’s a stain on my badge too. The longer I stay there…” He shook his head. “I don’t want to condone his actions by enabling them.”
“If you’re there, at least there’s one decent deputy.”
“I’m not the only one,” Dalton said. “Chloe is a good egg. Zach and Eric are decent men. But none of us can stop Hale’s rot. He’s got all the power as an elected official.”
“So, what are your choices? You run for election, or you quit?”
“Pretty much.”
“What do you want to do?”
Dalton shot me a hot gaze. “Right now? I want to fuck it out of my system.”
I was supposed to be pushing him away, but hell, I could sacrifice my ass for one night of wild, angry sex if it helped settle him, right?
“Bring it on, Deputy.”
He got out of his chair and prowled over to me. I tipped my head back as he braced his hands on the top of my chair, leaning in over me.
“Open my jeans and swallow my dick,” he ordered.
I reached up and flicked open his jeans. He grabbed the back of my head with his left hand as I leaned forward. I tugged his shaft out, pointing it toward my mouth.
“Go deep,” he growled, pulling me down on his dick and making me gag. “Fuck yes. Choke on it.”
