We can’t risk coming out together. And this is real life, so I can’t hide behind the shower curtain while she walks out first.

Her bedroom…

People might not notice that her door was closed. No one would walk in.

I apply pressure against Kendra’s back, and she moves toward the hallway. But then I spot the closed bathroom door.

We could probably hurry past to her room.

I guide Kendra into taking one more step.

But then I hear the toilet flush.

Cutting it too close.

I slide my hand up to the back of Kendra’s neck and tighten my hold.

She lets me steer her.

We cut across the living room.

Kendra lengthens her stride.

She doesn’t want us to get caught either.

She wants to escape with me.

She fuckingwants me.

I hear the bathroom door open.

Footsteps sound in the hall.

“Hurry,” I whisper.

Kendra sees where we’re going. She reaches her hand out.

My pulse is racing.

The person coming down the hall is a moment away from seeing us.

Kendra yanks the door open.

And I follow her into the garage.

I push the door closed behind me. But I don’t let it click. I silently leave it resting against the latch. The result of some careless person who came into the garage to grab some beer.

It’s dim. The row of windows in the top panel of the garage door lets in just enough of the late afternoon sun to illuminate the fridge a few yards away.

Kendra looks at me over her shoulder.

I expect a remark. Maybe a raised brow.

But her gaze is full of need.

Need for me to touch her.

For me to tell her what to do.
