Dressed in pajama shorts and a loose tank top, I step into the unlit hall.

The house is quiet.

Dark.

But I still see the man as he peels away from the wall.

His large shape is overwhelming in the dark.

My heart rate jumps.

But not from fear. From expectation.

Luther reaches out, his hand cupping the side of my neck. “Thisis good night, Kendra.”

Holding me still, using his thumb under my chin to keep my head tilted back, Luther kisses me.

His lips press against mine.

Firmly.

Electricity zips through my body as I reach for him.

And when my palms land on his chest, his mouth opens.

Luther slides his tongue against the seam of my lips, and I slide my hands to his sides… To his back.

He groans, and I part my lips for him.

His fingers flex against my neck, and he glides his other hand over my shoulder to the center of my back, pulling me in close.

It’s my turn to groan as I push up on my toes, chasing to deepen the kiss. Slipping my tongue past his lips.

My hands turn into claws against his back.

His hand slides down my back, like he’s going to grip my ass.

I curl my hands in the fabric of his shirt and push him away.

Luther loosens his hold on me, letting me put a few inches of space between our bodies, as he lowers his forehead to mine.

“I don’t want to stop,” I whisper in the dark.

His breaths come out heavy, his body affected just as much as mine is. “I know, Baby.”

We both want more.

“Go to bed.” Luther’s words puff against my lips, then he steps back.

Chapter 46

Luther

I’ve givenher twenty minutes.

Given myself twenty minutes to calm down. To get my body under control.

With a pillow and rumpled blanket on the couch, I leave the bathroom light on but shut the door.
