‘Perhaps I'll find others who can,’ she taunted in return.
But Thorne found the possessiveness that took hold of him almost more than he could bear, and he pushed her down into the bed, straddling her again.
‘You will not,’ he snarled.
‘I jest,’ she said, her eyes guileless. ‘I love only you and the others. No one else. I never will. I promise you that.’
She held him to her and soothed him.
He and the Beast were truly one now, he thought. This possessiveness came from his other side.
‘I’m sorry,’ he said. I'm just ...’
‘I know.’
Thorne caught her to him and closed her eyes with his fingers gently.
‘Rest,’ he said.
She did as he advised, folding herself into his side and sighing with contentment.
Nyx came back a moment later and closed the door silently as he noted that Elle wasn’t awake.
‘What is it?’ Rye asked.
‘The fucking Horde,’ Nyx answered.
‘They've made it over the mountains already?’
Nyx nodded.
‘How the fuck did they manage that?’
‘They have Ceres’ help,’ Nyx said. ‘There's no other way their vast numbers could have arrived so quickly.’
‘When will they be here?’
By the morning.’
We best get ready then,’ Rye said.
Thorne closed his eyes. ‘In a bit. If this is the last night we get to spend in the Light Realm with the woman we love, I'm not going to waste it.’

Elle
She woke alonein the room the next morning. Donning her dress, she strode to the window, feeling the sun on her face as she stretched languidly. Something had happened to her while she’d slept. She knew more than she had before, and she felt stronger. She shivered. She could also somehow feel the mass that was the Horde coming. They'd be here very soon to overrun the city. To destroy Kitore,Gaila’s city, the first and only one of its kind.
She shivered and turned sharply, realizing why she was feeling so cold and wondering why her senses were warning her so late.
‘I know you're here,’ she said to the invisible Liathmor. ‘More of you come to do his bidding, but you will not take me.’
She heard a chuckle, and then a whisper that echoed through the room. ‘You couldn’t stop him as a god, you’ve no chance as a human. Your realm is as good as gone.’
She bared her teeth. ‘Come then,’ she goaded. ‘Come and take me to your master if you can.’
She ran from the room before it could open a portal to suck her through. She needed to stay in this realm. This was where the power Gaila had spoken of was and it was time to use it.
