“Why?!”
I screamed at her. “I did it because a nigga loved you and you betrayed me! I did it because a nigga was loyal whether you knew it or not and you shitted on me! So, I did it. I pulled the fucking trigger and Asia I promise if time were to rewind I would do it again. Fuck you! Fuck you, Asia!”
The feeling of Ace and Asia surrounding me formed a lump in my throat. They were ganging up on me. I didn’t like it.
“Dio, I was trying to protect Foe. I’m sorry.”
“What about me? I was the nigga that held those secrets. Remember when Mega was hungry, I fed that nigga. I was with you when you were down. It was me, and when it was time to protect me; you lied. You threw me under the bus for a nigga that you barely knew. You was on some crew love shit and honestly Asia, it’s something I will never forget.”
“Dio!”
How ironic that Foe’s voice came through. This wasn’t the time. I was getting shit off my chest and he had to be the one to come into the room.
“Foe!” I heard Asia say. “Dio, I’ve never seen him look so sad.”
“Yeah, well Asia you didn’t see a lot of shit.”
I could hear Foe saying something, but Asia was rambling simultaneously.
“Asia, Please! Our time is done. God has already written my karma for my actions with you. I’m sorry I took you from your kids, I am. Am I sorry shit happened the way that it did, I don’t know but I’d rather be honest than to lie to myself for another second. Watch over your kids and not my nigga Foe. He’s good and even if I never make it out of this. I got him, not you.”
The sounds of clapping filled my ears. However, it wasn’t coming from the outside, but from inside my head.
“You’re starting to learn. I see.”
“Ace, nigga chill.”
Something was happening to me. I could smell the disinfectant, and the over-washed linen filled my nose. A nigga could smell.Was this a sign?Then I smelled something else. Was this nigga smoking in the room? Foe was really trying to send me to an early grave. The nigga was trying to blow my ass up in this bed.
I could hear him inhaling and exhaling. The smell of the gas he was smoking filled my nose.Oh, this nigga wants me to get high with him.
“We killed a nigga today, little homie.”
Killed? Who did y’all kill?
Smoke in my nose again.“Can you hear me, Dio? Huh? Bad ass little nigga. I said we smoked a nigga today. Zeus sliced his ass up and put bullets through his bitch ass for you.”
Damn Zeus out here on some mafia shit.Who was it, Foe, tell me. Foe was that nigga. He was a little happy on the trigga, but I didn’t blame him. He knew what it was like to have siblings, sohis rampage with Zeus didn’t surprise me. I knew he was about to tell me about myself, and at this point I was ready to hear it.
Smoke in my nose again.
The smell of his weed was starting to get to me. I was getting one-on-one contact, and although I was between the afterlife and the real world, I felt good.Keep blowing that shit my nigga.
“Dio, you should have let me handle Asia’s ass. That was my job, not yours. You liked her or some shit?”
I was in love with her my nigga.
“Asia wasn’t one of the ones my nigga; she had kids. Now those little boys are growing up without a mother or father, and who knows, they may turn out like me or you.”
Now he left me here to think. I had never thought about what their life would be like after the fact. Guilt began to find me.Fuck man!
“I set them up straight, though. Money will never fix a loss, but it may help with healing. Dio, I used to be just like you. I was hard-headed, stubborn, and a thief. I was a young nigga who didn’t give a fuck about nobody and didn’t realize what or who my actions may have affected, but Chev and yo brother. Foe was like me?Knowing that Foe and I had so much in common tugged at my heartstrings. I didn’t know about all those things. When I looked at the guys, they seemed like superheroes to me. If you had asked me, I would have told you their lives before the Zoo were perfect.
