“You’re right, Roach. I don’t want to see this set either one of them back. It’s been nice having them join in more.” My dad wasn’t the only one enjoying the social changes in the two men.

“I’ll let the prospects know to keep watch on them, too. They can switch off staying at the clubhouse at night.”

“Good call, Hawk. Always someone around during the day,” Pinch added.

“Well, if you don’t need me to stick around, I’m going to head out to Raven’s.” I looked at my dad.

“Hold up a minute. I was going to call a meeting, but this won’t take long.”

“I’ll head inside, Prez, and give you all some privacy,” Roach said and turned toward the door.

“No need, Roach,” Prez said, and Roach stopped where he was to listen. “When I got home yesterday from us helping Keg, I received a call from Chief Knox. He asked us to be backup for the department if they find out where the Widows have set up shop. I agreed to it, then double checked with General Patel to make sure we weren’t on point for any mission with the government. We aren’t slated right now. Filled him in on the Chief’s and our thoughts about the Widows stepping up into bigger business and expanding their territory. General agreed the evidence points to it. I even brought up Crank’s thought about the women with him. And if the Widows have anything to do with those two women being snatched, then the Chief is going to lose the lead on any case involving the Widows because the Feds will step in. They will then become our problem. For now, standby is our part. Eyes and ears open when you are out. This could turn out to be nothing, but what worries me if it’s true. The Widows know we won’t stand for it in our territory, so I could see them doing something to send us a message.”

“Slimy fuckers.”

“Yes, they are, Moose.”

“Is that it? Standby until needed, but we keep watch?” I asked, making sure we were all on the same page.

“Yeah,” Prez answered, then looked toward Hawk. “Check with the Matherson brothers. See if they know anything about the Widows. Since Wyan’s working with the brothers now, maybe he’s given them some info on the Widows we don’t know. More information we gather, the better.”

“You got it. The Widows have always been low-key, if they are making a push, I wonder if leadership has changed. T-bone Jones is their leader. At least he was. Might need to look into that, too. Could be they have a shift in power.”

Hawk was right. Gangs were notorious for rolling over the top spot. Respect and loyalty were easily switched from one player to the next, depending on who was stronger and had more ambition. Probably why it crawled right up most MC’s backs when they got referred to as gangs.

“Well, we have a start. Guess we should go in and check on Freak.” Prez’s words were our cue the impromptu meeting was over.

“I’m out of here. If you need me, text.” Anxious to get to Raven’s, I turned to leave. I planned to walk around the building, instead of cutting through the clubhouse.

“Hey!” I stopped when Moose yelled. “Same goes, brother. You need us, you call or text.”

I gave a chin lift in response. I knew Moose spoke for each of them. They’d be there whether I needed them physically or just to talk. Their support meant everything to me.
