“I heard. Hide from people looking for you?”

“Only tall...” I stood and started walking toward Reed. “...handsome...hot...men,” I said the last word when I stopped in front of him.

“Is that so?”

Thinking of Gramps and my talk, I grabbed onto Reed’s forearms, then stood on tiptoes and kissed him. He opened his mouth and let me, and the whole time we kissed, he participated without touching me. Letting me take the lead, instead of taking over. I’d never been the aggressor. Maybe it was time to change that.

I ended the kiss and dropped back to my feet. “It will only take me a few minutes to close the clinic, and then I’ll be ready.”

“Need to stop by my place on the way to the clubhouse.”

“Okay, be ready in five. You want to wait in here?”

“No, I’ll wait in the truck. And so you know—I like being greeted like that.”

As he walked away, I grinned and started shutting down the computer. Just maybe we could make it work.

“Are you sure I’m dressedokay?” I pulled on the bottom of the V-neck sweater I wore with jeans and my boots.

“You look fine, great. I’ve told you that three times,” he said as he opened the door to his house.

“What do the other women wear to these parties?”

“Depends.”

“What do you mean depends?”

“Whether they are ol’ ladies, hang-arounds, women looking for fun...”

“Well, if I’m not dressed appropriately, you are taking me home.”

“Geez, Raven, it isn’t a fashion show. It’s a biker party. You could show up in a sheet and no one would care.”

“I should have brought a change of clothes to work, but I didn’t think about it. I hope you can’t smell animals on me.” I lifted my arm and smelled my sleeve.

Reed laughed and grabbed my arm. “Come on, I want your opinion. I set up Ry’s room this week.”

“You didn’t mention it.”

“No, because I wanted you to see it first. If you think he won’t like it, I’ll switch it out.”

“Reed, a bed, maybe a TV, and a place to put his clothes is fine.”

He opened the door and we walked into what would be Ry’s room when he stayed over at Reed’s house.

“Dear God, after he sees this, he won’t ever come home. You will be stuck with him.”

“Alright, I might have gone a little overboard.”

“Is that a mini-fridge?”

“Yeah, that was Tram’s idea. Nothing sucks when you’re in the middle of a game and have to pause it to go to the kitchen and grab a drink.”

I had no words for the room. The furniture was fine, it was the amenities that put if over the top. A flat-screen mounted on the wall, a game system with games, a computer on the desk.

“Reed, it’s...” I was sincerely at a loss for words.

“If you’re having problems with this. You probably aren’t going to like what else I got.”
